After this last week of doctor visits , X-Rays and Cat-scans ! We have been told Raines has at least 15 skull fractures in his face. And will have to have surgery in the next few days.And some are saying it is very possible that the damage is so great that he may never be able to fight again as a professional boxer. Right now he is very optimistic and believes he will be back in the ring with in 3 or 4 months.The fight with Hearns was a fight Delray wanted for a long time and was surprised when he was offered the fight being that Hearns had been recently devastated by the fighter Harry Yorgey and Raines had fought many Top fighters like Aaron Mitchelle ,Carson Jones ,Tarvis Simms & Joe Greene fighters that would stop fighters like Hearns and Yorgey in just a few mins if they were given the opportunity.But Raines was hit with 2 shots in the fight the 1st one dropped him and the 2nd one was the one that broke all those bones in is face.Raines told me in the dressing room that it seemed as though the he was hit with a still bar since he was never incoherent or unconscious he remembered the hole thing.He said it was the most pain he had ever felt not just in boxing but his whole life.And as a fan and a Participant in this sport I have many un-answered questions about this fight and the things that happen in the last hour before the fight such as changing it from a 8 to a 6 rounder and Changing the Gloves to the Ringside gloves to 2 pairs of White Reyes gloves.I guess they felt that Hearns could not do the same damages that the gloves provided by Top Rank like all the other fighters on the card were using. Yea to Team Raines that all seems at the least strange ! But at the this time all we are concerned about is getting him healthy again and if the $10,000 insurance policy will cover all the medical that will be required for the devastating and unbelievable injury.
