Basilio was never ko. Stop yes, but he never took a ten count. Carman has one of the most iron chins, I dont even think the Hitman could put Basilio out for the ten count, after all he face such punchers as Robinson, Demarco, Galivan, Saxton, and non of these guys were able to put Basilio out for the count/
And nobody put duran or roldan down for the count either, not to mention turning cuevas into a quivering wreck with one punch.....
Ive said it before and i will say it again JT,hearns is THE premier p4p one punch hitter in history. This guy is really only a natural welter/lt middle yet starches durable guys with one punch. The andries and hagler fights show how his power even went up to lt heavy, remember tommy knocked down 175 andries with one punch for a six count and only andries huge heart and tommy going a bit wild for the stoppage saved him in that round. Up until then andries had only been stopped once at HEAVYWEIGHT. When you consider some huge punchers cant carry their punch even a few weights (eg benn, jones, chavez, etc.) you see how special hearns is in carrying one punch bombs from welter to lt heavy.....
This is one hypothetical that gives me fits...Basilio was a tough, strong, rugged grinder at welter. If he could push Hearns back by attacking and not allowing him to get set, he could win. I feel Hearns carried more one punch power with him at welter than anyone due to the leverage and speed he could extend on his right hand...and Tommy could flat out box too...I think that both would have their moments, and I feel that Hearns would put Basilio on the canvas, but does not keep him there! Basilio would do damage on the inside. During the early to mid range of the fight it would be a war.But Hearns makes the adjustments, starts utilizes height, reach, and speed...cooling the temperature down a little. Outpointing Basilio by UD. I never saw the article, but I think "Big Book of Boxing" did a dream fight on this one, did anybody see it?
Me too, and i found them mostly very plausible too. One of my faves was the brutal little affair between Foreman and Liston - and a result i agree with 100% now.
JT, I never caught that one (wish I had) the ones I remember...geez, all the way back to the early eighties were Hagler/LaMotta, Duran/Arguello, Duran/Ayala, Pryor/Armstrong, Sugar/Sugar, and Sadd/Moore, and Zarate/Chandler...and yeah, I found them very plausible too...nice little articles. They were fun!
Marciano - Dempsey, Holmes - Frazier, Ali - Louis, Spinks - Foster, Lopez - Saddler, Frazier - Marciano, Gavilan - Palomino, and the list goes on.
Hearns was unable to ko Hagler, and I feel that Basilio has a better chin than Hagler. Sure Hearns may have the pound for pound power, but Basilio had the pound for pound chin, taking blows from power punchers from Welterweight up to Middleweight. I dont see Hearns knocking Basilio out. Basilio is way to rugged and tough for that. Also outside of his fight with SRL, Duran didnt do much in the middleweights, Whats also forgoting, is Duran went from Lightweight to Middleweight, which is relly a big jump. Basilio was never a lightweight. His range was always the welterweights and middleweights.
