Here we go again. I guess in your eyes Hearns is nothing but a punching bag. BTW how many world titles have u won?
Hearns has always been one of my favorite fighters of all time...and is unquestionably a greater fighter than Benn...But with that said, I think Benn's wild style gets Hearns caught up in a slugfest...and Benn would come out on top in that...
I like both fighters and knew Nigel back in the day when he was an up and comer on the London Amateur scene, I remember his fights against Rod Douglas, his clubmate Roy Andre & Wendell Henry etc. This is a winnable fight for either man as both are big bangers who were both vulnerable, but I think Hearns would likely have won by a KO, as long as he stayed disciplined, boxed on the outside with that long jab, then drop the right hand over. If the fight deviates away from the long range stuff where I think Hearns would dominate, if the fight gets "scruffy" Hearns could possibly get caught and wobbled & that's when Benn would have a genuine chance. I think Benn's punch resistance is not as good as Hearns' actually, he was badly wobbled by lesser bangers than Tommy. If Hearns boxes sensibly it could be like the Duran fight, if the fight becomes messy I see it more like the Roldan fight.
I agree with Fasthands, either an early K.O or a knock down drag out fight with both men hitting the deck before Hearns finally wins.
I also c Hearns winning. I think Hearns is on another planet skill wise and as long as he boxes behind that incredable jab he will eventually catch him with the right. Some of these guys keep bringing up Barkley like a broken record but fail to mention all the guys that stopped Benn none of which hit as hard as Hearns. Don't bring up McClellan he ko'd Benn in the first round period. It took the man almost 20 seconds to get back in the ring. Gerald was ****ed up before that fight even started. Gerald is quoted as saying Hearns is the best fighter he ever saw for what it's worth. Don't get me wrong I love Benn and it may b a different story at 168 but your talking about a good champion against a great champion.
Hearns s far better and an ATG BUT Benn decimated DeWtt & Barkley and I think he would have done Hearns in a war.
Benn is far too crude at 160 to beat Hearns. Tommy also has the edge in clean punching power. I think Benn is made for Tommy.
Two Big Bangers With Shaky Chins. This Could Fall Either Way. Someone's Getting Sparked Out Thats For Sure.
Barkley was shot when he fought Benn. And Dewitt was tailor made for Benn. Even if Hearns goes to war with Benn like he did vs Hagler I give Hearns a 75% chance. If He boxes him I give a 95% chance.
