We have no idea what Bivol is capable of since he rarely leaves gear #1. He has never been outboxed or outclassed by a better boxer. If Bivol does badly it will turn out like Hearns vs Hill. Virgil Hill was a jab centric fighter, just like Bivol.
you can almost see a 12 round fight, although Hearns jab changes the dynamic of the fight in a way Canelo could not. being shorter.
I actually thought of an analogy to Hearns vs Hill also, at least in part. Bivol is an excellent fighter, conventional - and I think conventional is good for Tommy given the terrific boxer he himself could be. My viewings of Bivol are limited - perhaps there is room for him to ante it up - certainly he did all that was required vs Canelo, no need for more even if he had extras in reserve.
You cannot compare a relative amatuer like Bivol to Hearns.. Bivol at this point had a great fight and win, but we don't know enough about him to really compare him to a great like Hearns chin.. Tommy took Hagler and Leonard's punches and Duran, and all of Barkley's in the second fight, yet he was on the ropes mostly absorbing, but it is hard to compare.
Ate a flush right hand from Joe Smith Jr who is a hard punching LHW. Hearns would have gone to sleep like he did against Barkley.
Hmm? I might have to go with Hearns here, Bivol doesn't possess the tools to take Tommy out and loses a jabbing match and taking the occasional big right hand from Tommy.
Hearns decision based on styles. I wouldn't count out Bivol though because he's good. Beterbiev vs Hearns is a war that I would favor Beterbiev to maul and stop Hearns, Hearns better pray that he can take out Beterbiev early. Joe Smith Jr seems like a fight that could go either way, maybe Smith can bomb out Hearns, or maybe Hearns can box Smith to a decision. I would favor Hearns to win a decision.
It is that easy I guess. A guy has to punch like Barkley and in that awkward way he throws in the middle of exchanges. Would Bivol have hit Toney like Barkley did? Or Benn? Being in position and in the position to take punches in order to throw them is Barkley's style. Regardless,, Joe Smith and Barkley? It also matters what kind of punch it is and when it lands.
