Going into the fight, Ray thought he could outbox him. He didn't purposely get bashed up just waiting for Tommy to tire like Ali did against Foreman. He thought he had the ability to outmanoeuvre him, but when he started getting hurt and he received a grilling from Dundee, he changed his tactics.

 

Your opinion on Roy's opponents isn't really relevant here. We're looking from Tommy's perspective. We're looking at who he faced, and the challenge that Roy would have presented to him.

Ray and Marvin weren't in a different class to Roy.
