hearns vs leonard at 154

I'm one of those people. at 168 Tommy was not even percieved as a threat of any kind but more like the walking wounded. It's easy to see the difference in his physique from 4 years earlier-hard lean fast and mean. I don't see how ray has any kind of chance

He never stopped him either side of the proposed weight (147 in 1981 & 168 in 1989) so I doubt he will stop him when both are at their absolute peaks.

If anyone is getting stopped, its 100% Hearns but my personal prediction is Leonard W15 UD Hearns.

SRL wont let Tommy build that kind of lead again & he will test Tommy`s heart early by mixing it up quite a lot, it will be nip & tuck for about 11 or 12 rds then SRL will start to outfight Hearns & likely sweep all the champ rds... I see Tommy holding on & clinching better than in 81 to avoid the KO but Ray will get the best of it as he has the stronger will when both are tired, the better chin & is just plain tougher.

Leonard W15 Hearns.

 

I strongly believe that Hearns was at his lethal best at 154 --not at 147 or 162. Leonard had a hellish time with even the faded version that had been stopped twice since the first bout and Leonard knew how dangerous any version of Hearns was. Leonard got the 21 year old and the 30 year old. Hearns at 25 and at his best weight? As great as Leonard was, he got lucky with Hearns -especially because he didn't fight him in 1983-1984.

Hearns by decision, with a couple of Leonard knockdowns sprinkled in.

 

Don't rule out knockdowns from both men. However, it's more than likely that Leonard would be the one scoring them if it was only to be one hitting the canvas. Hearns happened to be the more fragile out the two, no question about that.

 

12 rds Id give Tommy a shot vs ANYONE, Leonard included but 15 is too long for Tommy vs the grittier Leonard, the champ rds would be Tommy`s undoing IMO... Leonard can take his punch + can hurt Tommy in return & when both guys are breathing thru their ass & pushing it to the limit its Ray who has that little extra something, that drive to succeed that separated him from most other great fighters (Tommy included), Leonard would push closer to death than Hearns in a fight & rds 12-15 is when SRL would separate himself from Hearns IMHO.
15 rds is the key here & it WOULD have been 15 rds in the mid 80s.

While I disagree with Pea's opinion, it's far from being the outrageous one you make it out to be. With Hearns showing shakey punch resistance over both fights, the opinion of Leonard winning inside the distance should not ridiculed.

It's usually your opinions which attract exactly what you gave Pea.
