Hearns vs Margarito

This. As durable as Margarito was he wouldn’t be able to absorb too many flush shots from Hearns. Hearns punched way harder than Mosley.

It's true that Hearns can get caught and Marg has a good enough chin to stay in for a while. Problem is Marg is an accumulation puncher. He's too slow and technically not good enough to catch Tommy enough to KO him. If Tony had huge power, I would give him a shot because of his chin. But he was not that kind of puncher.

 

Folks remember when Margarito - Cotto was announced & I forecast Tony would beat Cotto. The poll was very similar to todays poll wayy in favor of Cotto. I was ridiculed for forecasting a Margarito win. You guys were calling him names like The Statue, The Mummy etc.. BUT The Statue beat the living **** out of Cotto.LOL Once things went against him He folded he crumbled He QUIT!! on his knees. Same was happening in the rematch so the NY doc stopped the fight to save Cotto QUITTING AGAIN!!
That doc knew Tony couldnt see out of that eye from the second round but let him carry on till Cotto started to wilt again Only then did he stop the fight To SAVE COTTO's embarassment in QUITTING AGAIN!!
As for Tommy / Tony I know a 100% Tony would jump at the chance at Tommy . Tommy would be up for it too. It would be a barn burner Neither man would QUIT !! thats for sure. Its a shame we'll never get to see it

 

That's a poor example CJ! Cotto is no where near on the level as Hearns man lol Hearn's speed and jab would alone be too much for Margarito.

 

Easy work for the Hitman: he was so great, he'd have probably beaten Tony Margo with just his jab if he was that way inclined.

 

Maybe ? They said Cotto was going to clown him didnt they ? WRONG!!!
As for Tommy we'll never know for sure he was always one of my fav fighters It sure would have been a fight to see

 

If Mayweather had loaded gloves, and Margo had the IV, would you still spout the same thing?

Back on topic, Hearns by KO.

 

First fight I saw of him was ESPN Tessitore called him an accumulation puncher or he would have gotten his man out sooner

Then next fight he ripped some dudes ear off, yet his face wasnt showing such carnage.

Hearns win imo is different from Shane who fought inside, clinching, where Tommy keeps him at Bay until that Motor City Cobra venom does Rito in.

 

Margo doesn't have one punch KO power. Don't see him stopping Tommy.

 

Playing the devils advocate here but one could argue that Hagler was an iron chinned accumulation puncher. He was no light puncher, neither was Margo, but both are not known to be devastating one punch KO artists. And both were known for their workrate, toughness and an iron chin.

Hagler much more skilled and faster too but my point is, if you can weather the storm, and get inside, you can go all out on him and make it happen. Barkley did it too.

 

Hearns was past his best and outside of his prime weight class when he fought Barkley, so that's a horrible comparison. Hearns at WW obliterates Margo.

 

Hearns by KO/TKO. No question Tommy is just on a better level all around.

 

Absolutely I would but it was proven Floyd cheated with IV gate Nothing was PROVEN against Margarito. I want a clean sport not a corrupt one
