I think it would be a fascinating fight, I want to hear what the Brit forum's posters think. What would happen in the fight, how would Mayweather approach it and how would he win?
It's fascinating if you enjoy watching horror movies or a public execution. Floyd is banged out inside a round.
Hearns is the worst possible fighter for Floyd, extremely tall and long for a welterweight, great Jab and use's it, hardest right hard in History, Can't see Floyd making it to the full distance even in survival mode
Worst fight ever. Go to the classic, there's a thread on it at the mo' that has had a lot of feedback. Floyd doesn't survive even at his most negative. Hearns is a horrific matchup for most great welterweights, not only is he an even worse match up for Floyd he's levels above him. Hearns KO inside a few rounds.
If Floyd could survive the full 12 or 15 rounds with a prime WW Hearns, it would the single greatest achievement of Floyd's career.
It might go 6, if Hearns want to get the rounds in. In reality, Tommy takes him out whenever he wants to
How does Mayweather outjab Tommy? How does his defence play out against Hearns' right hand? How will he deal with a guy as rangy as Hearns, who is as fast as him, who can bomb with either hand, who can feint, who went on to outjab Virgil Hill (for ****s sake) there is no way Floyd could beat Tommy Hearns at any weight. Hearns is far greater as well. Totally different levels IMO, especially at Welter. If anyone says 'Corrales was tall and could punch so Floyd would probably fight like that' can go **** themselves. This would be a worse beating than Floyd dished out to Gatti, only Mayweather won't last as long. Remember when Mosley buzzed him? Think that but Floyd completely unconscious, or at least shortly after. Tommy won't gas over 12 (I'll give Floyd that one bit of help) and, as his hands weren't at their best against Benitez, I'll assume he doesn't shut out Floyd by being a better boxer than him but, healthy at Welter, just wipes him out instead. Floyd doesn't have the power to get Tommy's respect. Hearns is a far better body puncher.
I'd probably even take a weight drained Tommy with the broken right hand to comfortably outbox Mayweather. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is outboxing Hearns at Welter. The only man I'd slightly favour over him at 147 would be Robinson.
I think it would be a case of Mayweather making slanderous remarks against Tommy, accusing him of taking drugs and blaming his promoter for him not being able to make the fight. Floyd would then spend the rest of his career blaming Hearns for the fight not being made, whilst assuring everybody he'd win, and he didn't need him on his resume anyway. But if it did happen there just isn't a way for Mayweather to win.
