Well, it seems to me he needed to be a savage finisher vs Mannion (to make himself known and marketable as a fighter people would pay to see) and against Roy Jr and Toney and Sumbu Kalambay and against Herol Graham, but … he wasn’t. I think Thomas boxes himself to a neat decision, probably weathers a good counter or three that rock him but controls the action with his jab and legs and his power is more than enough to keep the Body Snatcher honest (and too far away to do any body snatching most of the way). Hearns walks away with a points with, but with a slight chance of catching Mike and taking him out imo.
The Mannion fight CRUSHED Mikes career. He had a shot to make a statement on HBO when at that time being on HBO was a massive step for a boxer. And Mike stunk up the joint by allowing a limited but tough boxer to last 15 rounds.
If they rematched at middleweight Hearns stops Barkley. Not to take anything away from Iran but he was getting decimated before landing that shot.
