Hearns vs McCallum at 154lbs. I think McCallum would of taken Hearns out. Hearns would of had an advantage in speed, but i think McCallum would of set him up for a big punch eventually. Much like he did to Curry. Hearns got nailed by Barkley,Roldan. Guys who were very inferior technicians compared to McCallum. Hearns might have won a few of the early rounds, but i think McCallum would of caught up with him eventually.
This would be a barn burner for sure, I cant really pick a winner but we would see 3 knockdowns or more.
I think many people rate the Thomas Hearns post Hagler fighting McCallum, but that Hearns was a little more shakey than the 1984 Hearns who fought Duran and Minchillo and Hutchings. I think the Hearns of 1984 would outbox McCallum and win a unanimous decision. The post Hagler-Hearns, would have a harder time with Mike. Tommy after Hagler became more of a having to get the guy out early before he tires out kind of fighter. He diminished a little after Hagler. He was still good enough to beat most guys.
The Tommy Hearns at 154 from '82 to '86 was the BEST the division has ever seen.......... Hearns busted his knuckles of his right hand against "Benitez & Hagler." Thus, Hearns' hand was not always up to par..... However, when healthy (Duran & Shuler) it was lethal...... Hearns again hurt / bruised his right paw against Mark Medal in his last defense at 154 in 1986.... That is why Doug DeWitt lasted 10 rds with Hearns at the close of 1986 on Showtime..... Hearns hit the rugged DeWitt with the kitchen sink, but Hearns' hand was still tender.......:deal Mike McCallum is # 2 at 154 in my book.......... Hearns did everything McCallum ever did in the ring, and more......:yep Jules Jackson is probably deserving of the # 3 spot......:huh Terry Norris is up at # 4......... Dudes like "Trinidad, Leonard, DLH, Mugabi & Vargas" can fight for whatever is left........:silly MR.BILL
