It's a more competitive fight only because Martinez is a MW but its not out of the question of Hearns stopping him. Hearns forced Leonard into retirement and for a second in the first round of the Hagler fight, he had iron chinned Marvin shook which is a true statement to his power. You can't win by boxing him, you have to be a puncher who decides to take what he dishes out to get him or simply get lucky. He was clearly outboxing Leonard and he could always outbox Leonard until Leonard himself decided he had to dig down deep and take Hearns out which what he did in the first fight.
Im only saying Sergio to give him a litttle bit of a fight. more like he'd make him break sweat. I don't know if he'd ko Floyd but he wouldn't have a problem with and if Floyd wants to mix it up to win back some rounds. boom
I know I just loved the idea of Margareta's eye being pounded threw the back of his head. Tommy had the power to even make the walking dead quit! it would be a slaughter . . . :happy
On the surface, only Mayweather has the tools to make it competitive, but I'm sure someone you wouldn't expect like maybe Cotto could give him at least a bit of a fight. However Tommy was phenomenal as a welter, and it was just his misfortune that the only man who was better at that weight at that time was around. Were it not for Ray Tommy would have moved up from WW without a blemish. His power makes it easy to overlook the fact that he was a magnificent boxer as well. Manny Steward's reputation(somewhat undeserved IMO) is built entirely on the fact that he found this gangly, shy teenager who became one of the most exciting and fan-friendly fighters ever. I'm sure it wouldn't be just as smooth a ride as we'd like to think but he's on a completely different level to most of these guys.
yeah Hopkins is one awkward *******. make anyone look bad. Just think if had problems with Taylors jab (past prime maybe) being doubled up , Tommy would definitely have success.
Margarioto of 5 years ago would give tommy a fight but like the rest they all get beat tommy was just about unbeatable at 147
Hearns and Williams would be good just for the fact two of the tallest welterweights ever in the same ring. Not a lot of Flab in that ring.
That would be an interesting match-up. not a big bhop fan but he is cagey enough to make it interesting. I think Bhop is number 3 on the MW ATG list (behind MMH and Monzon . . . SRR is GOAT at WW) but I think tommy's speed and power would be to much for Bhop and tommy would get the nod.
I honestly think the only interesting thing about Hearns-Margarito is how long Marg can march forward and eat punches before folding. I don't care how good your chin is - no-one is eating flush power-shots from Hearns consistently and going the distance. With Hearns jab and the accuracy of his right-hand, I can't think of many Welterweights with a worse style to face him than Marg.
I don't even see that. If Mosley and Judah is able to catch and stun him, Hearns definitely will and there's no playing around when Floyd is caught by Hearns.
