I'm a big fan of height and reach, but in this case I think Toney's counters do serious damage to Hearns' spindly frame, and he knocks him out like he did Holyfield.
Toney by come from behind KO.Interestingly, Toney and Hearns trained at the same gym but Steward would not let both spar together
Matters what frame of mind Hearns came to fight in. Problem is they were friends. Hearns met Toney when he was young and inspired him. I doubt they could really fight. But if they didn't know each other? Stylewise? I think Hearns if he fights a jab fight he can win. But not if he goes for broke.
The fight would be up to Tommy to win.. I love Thomas and think he is all time great, but his need to knock people out hurt him. He could have won so many fights jabbing.
Are you sure you aren't getting Toney mixed up with Michael Moorer? It's well known Steward didn't let those two together but i've never heard anything about Toney?
The closer to 160, the better Hearns does. He beats Toney at 160. More disciplined, better offensive boxer. At 168 and 175, Toney takes over.
I love Hearns and he has some of the best wins in history. but the two big fights he lost were his fault a little. He likes to pick guys apart and knock them out, when he really could have won with his jab like against Benitez or Hill. His will to win hurt him.
Again, if my uncle had boobs he'd be my Aunt. Hearns was who he was, and that is just what it is. He's an ATG, and a h2h monster, but Toney would exploit him at some point, both mentally and physically.
This is not true. No way your Uncle could be your Aunt, but Hearns outboxed greats in his career who were better than Toney in my mind. Wilfred Benitez and Virgil Hill. Toney was flawed. And he really never fought a guy like Hearns.
The SRL loss had nothing to do with Tommy exchanging. After being hurt in the earlier stages he actually reverted to 100% boxing. Leonard still ended up getting to him late in the fight, despite the tactical change from Tommy.
