I know what you are saying, but I don't think that the McKenzie fight tells us that much as McKenzie made that style work for Bellew - Cleverly would be much sharper and would make Bellew work far more. Bellew was able to control the McKenzie fight largely just by being cautious, controlling distance and threatening power. Cleverly won't stand and watch that unfold as McKenzie did. There is a danger that Bellew will overestimate his abililty to control a fight following the McKenzie walkover, imho.
I've said before that I think Cleverly will win, but I don't see Tony as a 7/2 underdog. Cleverly has flaws that Bellew can exploit, which is always noteworthy in a fight like this, plus his temperament doesn't really do him any favours. With Bellew's lack of seasoning thus far as a professional, really you want to be an authoritative kind of fighter, with a solid jab and good footwork/defence. We've seen Tony to date struggle to keep his cool if the opponent doesn't oblige him or if he struggles to impose his kind of fight on them - Cleverly will come forward, Cleverly is easy to hit and Tony does hit hard enough to knock him out (IMO). Looking at Cleverly's strengths..... His engine - 12 rounds at a pace no problem His heart - doesn't mind taking shots to fire off his own Handspeed - not immediately obvious but his hands are pretty nippy Weaknesses..... Temperament - doesn't take long for the red mist to come down, dad doesn't help Defence - the Calzaghe defence, eat right hands and march forward Footwork - abysmal, 'nuff said I think if Bellew boxes off the back foot, in a manner that we've yet to see admittedly, he's a very live underdog in this fight, he's taller and longer than Cleverly, who doesn't have good enough footwork to stalk an opponent effectively and land good punches..... he needs the opponent either to be slow or just meet him in the middle. I'd actually like to see Tony mix it up in this fight, leading and countering, for me the key to beating Nathan is to try and keep something in his face all night, because I've yet to see him countering effectively - unless you count being hit hard and firing back as countering.... My main worry as a Bellew supporter is his legs, how far can they carry him against this level of opponent at this weight. At cruiser, between 190-195lbs he'd be a murderer, no doubts.
Bellew is a very live underdog here for me. I got it 60-40 Clev so the 6/1 on Bellew stoppage is a good bet.
I'm tempted to put a tenner on Bellew to win by stoppage, its possible and it seems the only way bellew can win the fight IMO.
Is it bollocks chap, its cos Bellew has raw power, like a previous poster said Tony used to knock HW's over with headgaurds on.... Nathan can be hit and at some times seems to like getting hit, but if Bellew clocks him then he is gonna know about it, or should I say not know about it till he gets back on his feet and the yellow stars stop spinning.:bbb:bbb
QFT this forum is pathetic grown men pandering to a someone who doesn't give a **** if any of you go under a bus tomorrow. Like schoolgirls with a crush on here.
Having a rivalry is great for building up a fight and fairplay to Bellew for generating it and getting himself this opportunity. But I think some form of collective brainwashing must've taken place due to Bellew posting here. Having seen all of Bellew's and Cleverly's recent performances, I cannot see why Bellew can be described as 'all heart and a proud brit' in comparison to Cleverly. The simple evidence is that Cleverly has shown more appetite for a tear-up against higher class opposition than the self-styled scouse gangster.
I dont see it mate. But maybe he's showing something in sparring as another bloke says cos he aint showing in the ring
