Agree. Being an awkward southpaw who places more emphasis making opponents miss, it was expected for Khan to miss a great deal at the beginning. And when that fighter is more negative than normal, it makes it that harder to look good. But as I thought he would, Khan began finding the target easier as the rounds got on.
On HBO's punchstat, Khan had a 20% connect rate I think. Khan was missing alot at the beginning, but he slowly began hitting Paul more and more.
No one seems to be picking up on how slow McCloskey's hand speed looked. Those who mentioned his terrible footwork and slow hand speed in a public workour vid a couple days ago, were on the money. I think this performance did bad for McCloskey than it did for Khan. It proved that McCloskey's level will not go much further than European. Khan stated that fact and he was right.
Did you actually think Khan was hurt by McCloskey....and that he was going to knock Khan out? Trust me i didnt think it woulkd be 3 rounds....ive watched McCloskey on sky sports a few times, he's very awkward...but he's no 1 punch knockout artist.....and yeh Khans younger brother did square up....but only after McCloskey's corner started shouting **** at his family and corner....im sure you'd do the same for your family....
Khan let them have it, but at the same time undermined the whole fight by saying that McCloskey wouldn't have a chance with anyone he has fought before.....so why fight McCloskey in the first place then?
He could have stayed busy and fought Prescott, at least that would have meant something. This fight was a ridiculous mismatch and I'm surprised Khan didn't get him out of there within 4
I rewatched the fight, and McCloskey barely landed a single decent punch. Most of the time he was just trying to block or evade all of those combinations coming his way. He wasn't running away or anything, but he wasn't exactly doing much on the offensive front either. Nothing he did in this fight leads me to believe that he would have won if it had gone the full twelve. Khan, on the other hand, was throwing far too many amateur-like flurries and wasting his energy. It might be because of the crowd and desperation to put on a good performance for his homecoming, but he looked like he had nervous energy in there, and was just throwing far too much. He should have settled down and used more of a professional, 'pick your spots' type style, which would work better against someone elusive and awkward like McCloskey. To be fair, all of those combinations were certainly keeping McCloskey busy and potentially sealing off his offence, but the stamina cost surely isn't worth it. That being said, Khan did land some good shots here and there, and I like the way he was switching between body and head, and remembering to use his uppercuts on one occasion. He did indeed win every round, mainly on activity. I also think Rico is correct -- Khan was actually having his best moment of the fight just before the headbutt occurred. His attack finally affected McCloskey for a moment...it's a shame, because that might have been a turning point...we'll never know now, though. All in all, it was a messy, unsatisfying affair. Combine that with the disaster with Sky Sports in the lead-up, and the row in the post-fight press conference, and I wouldn't be surprised if Khan doesn't come back to fight in the UK for years. In his place, I would be utterly fed up, and he certainly looked it after the match. Quite a disastrous homecoming, to be honest, and Bradley will also be rubbing his hands together at what he saw. Khan clearly still needs a lot of work.
It's about Khan stood up for himself and answered back at the **** that's thrown at him. Shame on Team McCloskey they didn't deserve the title fight in the first place. They should go back to fighting for £200 fights it exactly what they're worth.
I loved it when Amir said listen to the champ. I loved it when oscar cut hearn jr off mid rant. Great watch.
I liked Khans comments there, seemed a bit more fiesty than usual....probably due to the cheek of the irish requesting a rematch - knowing their fighter quit, lost on points and made Khan lose out around £1million on this fight. But Khan does need to stop pumping out Maidana - bigging Maidana up so he gets more credit for his victory. Only last week an old shot slow one eyed Morales out boxed Maidana for the majority of the fight. Khan clearly got the W against Maidana, but stop making out this maidana is the p4p best, a great puncher but very easy to hit and lacks skill. Even Ortiz had Maidana out and could've probably finished him if he was more patient. Khan makes major mistakes with his footwork and pitta patta punches - won't gain any respect from the top dogs out there..... certainly not Mayweather and Bradley would eat him alive on last nights performance. I was dissapointed with Khan after Maidana fight with his tactics (moving away from the roach gameplan) and also his running around the ring... I was more dissapointed last night with his steaming in lunging squaring up his feet tactics... a skilled counter puncher will sidestep that **** at catch him good. It's like Khan took a massive backward step with last nights opponent. Let's just hope it's due to McCloskeys spoiling tactics ans Khan out of the ring problems.
Faz would you not be pissed if you lost every round but were still in the fight and you thought your opponent was tiring and that stoppage happened. Disgraceful stoppage, khan fans are happy but i know casual fans were going mad about paying for that ****. They dont blame amir khan they blame boxing. How the **** is this boxing fault that amir choose a tin can and looked shite against him and didnt even let the tin can have a fair crack ... British boxing got a massive black eye last night, massive
