Coach says I'm heavy front footed.

It is important for me to fix this since I need to use head and body movement to keep out of the way of being jabbed in the face, that heavy front foot basically got me stuck every time cause I can only push forward.

He didn't have any other suggestions for me since I tend to work these things out myself but trying to correct my balance makes everything feel wobbly now.

What are good ways to remedy this balance issue?

I know exactly what you are talking about. I am actually working right now... on learning to get used to applying more weight to my front foot, for my effective inside fighting (at least, that is the intended result).

I would suggest just working with it, and getting kinda more used to the feeling. I try to practice with weight on my front foot, rear foot, and neutral.

Being heavy on your front foot will not lead to more effective in-fighting. It will lead to you getting hit with a lot of uppercuts. Watch Juan Diaz vs Nate campbell.

Yea, that's what my coach told me. He said I need to find a 50/50 balance between the two in order to have a good, fluid stance that can move and throw solid punches from different angles.

The only difference I could see between the two stances is that I have a tendency to lean forward whereas he wants me to get used to keeping my legs underneath me.

    UPDATE:

Today, I had my training partner throw punches at me while I slipped. I only feel my footwork come together when I'm dodging punches, otherwise I think too much and start messing up. Instead of leaning so heavy to the front, I'm trying to shift the balance between both legs so I can shift faster to move out of the way.

Weight should almost always be centered

Yea, that's what I think I'm working my way toward.
Still feels awkward but it is getting better.

When are the times you should break this rule?

    In your experience or opinion?

*edit* That is an open question. I didnt want Jasper to feel like I was calling him out with the quote.

  9. Some people make the mistake of thrusting their front foot forward but with the front knee straight. Until you bend your front knee and have some weight leaning forward you can't get maximum power in your punches.

Actually to punch hard the mechanics are the opposite to that.

As far as I can tell, trying to fix this has made my slipping better and I can roll under and pivot properly to put the heat behind body blows now.
