The heavy weight contenders that would have probably done a lot better if they'd came along in a different time. Jerry Quarry perhaps in the early 30 s would probably have been crowned. Tua is another one, he would at least have won a version in the 80 s. Jimmy Young also. Thoughts?

Quarry would have done very well in the 1930s/40s/50s. Young could have done well in any era prior to the 1970s with his particular skillset.

Tua's lack of success was mostly his own doing, though he didn't get the same sort of luck as guys like Ruiz that's for sure. TBH I can see him having a similar level of nearlyman status in an earlier era too, depending on how far back you go.

Tony Tucker could have been pretty good in most other eras.

If George foreman had come along anywhere outside of Alis career, he may have been on par with Ali and Louis.

Harry Wills probably was a lot more successful a couple of years later.

It would have been interesting if jack johnson switched careers with Joe Louis and was Americas big hope to defeat the Schmelling.

Sonny Liston would have been interesting coming along just after Ali or an era earlier for that matter. I think he could have had a very good reign anywhere from post Louis to just short of Ali.

Tony tucker, at least the tyson version, would have done well in the late 50 s in my opinion. He'd have had a chance against Floyd and definitely Ingo.
Foreman, can you imagine him in the post Lewis era? He'd have eaten those guys. Johnson swapping places with a Louis? That s a interesting scenario.

Just think John.. If Ali never came to boxing, who's there to trouble Liston, at least till Frazier comes along. Thing is with Sonny, could he keep up the dedicated life to keep defending? Old Sonny liked to party by all accounts.

Put quarry in with sharkey and Carnera, he's a great chance of walking out with the belt.

Foreman would've been derailed in any post Ali era and probably by Liston too. He wasn't a 20 straight defense kind of fighter.

Not saying he'd make 20 or so defences but he'd have a great chance of getting champ in most eras. True he lacked the ability to reign indefinitely but a fair few champs would be crushed by a prime George. Especially if they took him lightly as Frazier alleged to have done.

Quarry would always be erratic, injury prone, ill focused, and have serious holes in his game. I don't get this insistence that Quarry was this marvel who just had the bad luck of running into great bigger men like Frazier and Ali.

He was outboxed by a 193 pound fairly washed up Machen.
He struggled quite a bit with a 195 pound declined Patterson.
Whilst injured he was out boxed by 195 pound Jimmy Ellis
And of course he got himself dropped and blew an 8 count against Chuvalo despite dominating the fight.

I think Quarry would struggle quite a bit against the technicians and boxer/punchers of the early 30s.

If he come along when Holmes did it would all depend on him and Holmes. If he beat Larry or won a trilogy as such it would be pretty clear sailing for some time.

Ron Lyle in the 50s would have been real good
Sam Langford in any era without the color line
