There is a massive cultural shify in America though, away from boxing - nobody knows a damn thing about the sport these days, whereas in the past they would.
I am of Russain heritage. I speak, write, read fluent Russian. I work for Russian company with all Russian employees. None of us/them consider ourselves "European". Most of Russia is in Asia. Europe has always distanced itself from Russia/Soviet Union. Russians are "Slavic" and are quite different from "Europeans" such as English, Irish, French, Italian, Spanish and how many of them do you see in the HW division?. I guess it was the "Europeans" who put the first satelite, man, woman in space? Just the fact that you have to call me a "ya ******" shows how articulate and brave you are. Do the math Poly before you show off your ignorance again
if some of the Americans could just get into top shape they could win but they are a bunch of lazy slobs. All of the Euro's come into a fight in top condition and ready to go.
Four things affect this moreso than any other: 1) Boxing not being on free TV anymore- makes it harder to maintain the image that a fighter is something you'd want to be if there's less easy, mainstream exposure. 2) The downfall of the US amateur program (fewer gyms, no more boxing in schools, etc) 3) A good economy, so people don't need to fight. Luckily, our government and the Fed is doing everything it can to "fix" that one. 4) More globalization of the sport at the professional level Combine them, and you get less raw material to work with and less US dominance even if the fighters we are producing are good because there's more competition. The NBA/NFL excuse is a copout because boxing has thrived in the past with those sports still there, and the decrease of US boxing talent is across the board, not just in the heavyweight class. Not all's lost, though- the sport just needs more exposure, the amateur system isn't a lost cause, and as more broke families are out there more young people will turn to boxing. But work has to be done. As for the globalization issue, we've just got to adjust to the fact that being the best in the US doesn't automatically mean best in the world anymore. As other countries' boxing programs get their act together, it just forces us to step our game up from the ground up. There's still a level of arrogance that needs to die off so we can address the real issues instead of talking like the rest of the world's HW's are garbage just because our guys aren't on top right now.
I agree completely with this post, and your absolutely right, the talent seems to be lacking severely as well. Could you imagine if the so called top guys were fighting there prime years in the 90's? They would of all got blasted out and forced to retire, even B class fighters like Ruddick, Morrison, Mercer, Bruno, and other's would of probably all held belts and I would favor most over the top guys we have now. Since the Euro's were allowed to fight in the 90's, why didnt they dominate then? It's because the Americans were alot better and tougher than there oppenents. I would also like to point out, that the Euro's really didnt dominate the Heavyweight division in the 2000's as some claim, just 3 short years ago all the 4 main champs were American, Rahman WBC, Ruiz WBA, Brewster WBO, and Bryd IBF, all American champs. Right now the division is in a slump, and will eventually be great again in the future.
You really need to go check out an atlas and look up Ural mountains you thick twat. If I was so ill informed about my heritage I would be ashamed. :nut
Wlad would see more canvas than Rembrandt's paint brush if he fought those two. Wlad is the best of a very bad bunch, his chin is pure glass, and has seen it's fair share of exposure by much less of oppenents, Brewster, Peter, Sanders, just to name a few. What makes you think Wlad would beat either one of these two? Bowe would eat him alive on the inside, Wlad doesnt even have a good uppercut, he clinches and panics. Against Holyfield, he would stand a better chance, but a prime Holyfield had 10 times more heart, as well as overall talent, I can honestly see Holyfield staying on his toes and boxing him to victory, and getting a couple knockdowns along the way, based on his combination punching on the inside, a place where Wlad is inept as a fighter.
I think Wlad has the skills and punch to match them, but he breaks against pressure fighters.....:deal
If were talking power and Jab, he's better than both Holyfield and Bowe, but in other departments he doesnt fit the bill IMO, his chin, heart, handspeed, inside fighting, all have alot to be desired. I think he may give Holyfield a little trouble, but Bowe's overhand rights and top notch inside fighting ability, would really help to do a number on him, I cant see Wlad lasting more than 6 rounds with a 92-93 Bowe.
Ok I have the answer for everyone to this problem of why euro heavy's are more dominent than American heavy's.....ready....there are no boxing gyms anymore! Instead there are football fields and basketball courts. I bet there are probably more skate parks than boxing gyms too.
