This is me on the heavybag, I wanted to see if anyone could take a look and give me advice. It's after 1hr40 in the gym training hard so I'm not too fast and sharp. 14oz gloves. Thanks.

Why does anyone who uploads a training video always claim to do it at the end of a long session?

    Ok listen up.

    Extend that jab fully.
When you throw a straight you lift up the elbow first makes it real obvious you are about to throw it.
    Get a haircut.
Be more on your toes to go in and out you tend to wait too far away from the bag walk in then get on your toes.
Bring your left straight back after throwing it dont loop it back.
You stand very straight on which is not good at all for a southpaw.
Wheres the footwork? You just walk in and plant your feet you should be on your toes all the time pivoting off making angles instead of walking straight in then walking away again.

You should practice following the bag in, instead of waiting for the bag to swing towards you.

Focus on technique rather than power.

    This.

The bag such as the size you are hitting shouldnt swing, if it does you need to deaden it, its an opponent.

Thats how i see the heavy bag, not saying its right or wrong just how i use it mentally.

VIP brings up a fair point regarding the " this was 1 hour 40 in " etc......no need for such talk.

On that subject im guessing you change your t shirt a lot ?

Your hair also........did you blow dry it before the vid ?

Either that or your previous 100 minutes was spent setting up your camera.

Not having a go, just saying what i see.

You also stand square at times as yes you switch, i would learn s/p first given that seems your modus.

I thought it looked pretty good. You're stepping with your punches, doubling the jab, stepping around. Your lift your elbow when throwing the straight left, try to bring it right off of your ribs(hope that makes sense). Remember your balance when throwing that left. Also you made a nice bob & weave, but then throw the right hook after. Work on changing levels, staying in on the bag, jab, change levels after combos, move in to the bag, work the bag inside, etc. Lastly, bend your knees and sit down a little more on your hooks. Just my .02 cents. I'm sure that some of the guys who have much more experience can give you more than I can. :good

Your power seems really good! Few minor things I noticed:

    1. Rhythm--You seem to be wasting a lot of energy with pointless bouncing and spasmodic twitching. Settle down into a rhythm. Relax. What you're doing right now makes you appear scared, believe it or not.

    2. Footwork--You seem to only want to attack straight in and straight back out. When you fight an opponent who doesn't suck, you'll find that those first few shots you throw on the way in will rarely land. You want to use them to make the other guy react or cover up, then TAKE AN ANGLE and hit him with another combo. Come in with a combo, then step to a side and fire through the opening you create.

    3. Head movement--Kinda relates to the previous point: Move as you throw a combo. You plant your feet when you throw, and your head is right there to be countered. Imagine the other guy counterpunching, and counter his counters. Often this will mean staying inside after you throw, weaving under a punch, and coming back up with a counter-combo.

    4. Stance--I don't like it. As a southpaw, that little peakaboo thing isn't necessary and will get you beat. A good orthodox fighter will extend his lead hand and paw away at you, then occasionally fire a hard jab or jab-hook at the side of your head. I'd suggest adopting a more conventional stance, because if an orthodox fighter can get his lead hand out and above your lead hand, he can control the fight. Watch what Wlad did to Chagaev for an example. Also, with your hands turned in like that, your elbows are pushed out, leaving the middle of your body exposed and obstructing your view. A good orthodox fighter will be looking to land his straight right to the body on ANY southpaw---and your stance and propensity to lunge in makes it an incredibly inviting target.

But yeah, your skills seem to be there, just need to tweak a few elements of your gameplan. Keep it up!

    Edit:
Oh, most important of all (silly me, I almost forgot): You fight how you train, right? Well get some new music. You're training to kick dudes' asses, not suck their dicks.

Ok pretty good, I don't usually watch these video's but as I've seen your a boxer I'll add a pennies worth.

Firstly, your movement is 90% to the right. Moving this way continuously will not allow you develop punching when moving to the left as well. In other words move both ways.

Secondly- do not wear 14oz on the punchbag, especially if your trying to perfect technique. Large gloves allow you to be less accurate, change them for 10's save your 14's for sparring.

Your feet cross too often for my liking. Everytime your feet cross you are no longer laterally stable. You are combat ineffective. You are neither attacking nor offering substantial defence. Every time your feet cross you make a mistake.

Finally every time you throw the left hand you expose your chin to the orthadox fighters left hook. Positioning when you throw is more important then positioning when you 4 feet from your oppononet. Perfect practise. Perfect technique.

Not bad though, for a guy with long curly hair:lol:

Also don't lie about the 1hr 40 thing, when I'm 20 mins into a session i'm completely drenched in sweat. Your bone dry, so unless you changed your t-shirt and dried off fro the video- ur speaking shite. Or the training that you do do is not substantial.

I'm getting fitter at the mo, at the pace I train at I can manage 2 shadows, 6 on the bag and 2 skips. Thats it at the mo. I'm a fit guy I can run 10k in sub 40 mins and have a resting hr of about 47- but I drive myself through training. I push myself as hard as i can. Thats what you should be doing too. If I trained for 1 hr 40 i'd need an amblance in my current condition.
