I'd expect Ali to keep him at bay with his jab regardless

    This.

The opponents that a heavyweight generally face are typically not gonna be as skilled as a Welterweight or Middleweight. That puts a heavyweight at a disadvantage in this.

No chance. Ali would have trouble hitting Duran. Roberto would all over him.

Maybe right on the bullying part, but hurt? This has to be a joke. Assuming weŕe matching Duran at lightweight and transferring those abilities to heavyweight Duran had dynamite in his fists, ask Ray Leonard. Ali was not a god, a very tough man, but still just a man. Duran is the master of infighting and all respect to Joe Frazier but he had nothing on Duran and we know how badly Ali struggled against Joe. Duran would be a nightmare for Ali. You said Duran didn have the chin? LOL Only knocked out once in over 100 fights against Tommy Hearns one of the all time hardest punchers who ever lived and even then he was eight years older than Hearns and came into that fight very drained. Alis strengths were fighting the one dimensional sluggers like Liston, Williams, Lyle, and Foreman. He struggled against Doug Jones, Henry Cooper, Jimmy Young and in reality lost 3 fights to Chinny Kenny Norton. Duran at lightweight was as close to unbeatable as you can get. I don say he knocks Ali out but a knockdown or two wouldn surprise me he gives Ali a real beating.

its hard to goof on here sometimes. lol. i think ali would give duran a lot of trouble. but duran is the type of fighter that broke Ali post exile. if duran has the correct game plan, courtesy of someone like Futch. Duran would almost always win. i still think Duran would had a lot of trouble cutting off the ring against a prime ali and trouble finding his mark but of course duran has power and chin lmao. i'd expect duran to floor ali at least once.

no doubt he gives ali a beating. yes norton beat ali's ass 3 times i wont debate that. part of my posts were just jokes but i do believe Ali's slick style at such a lighter weight would be immensely difficult to overcome for Duran. the chin and power comment about duran was just a joke. I agree Frazier had nothing on Duran, aside from maybe conditioning and determination. i love duran, can't get much closer to the boxers of yesteryear than Duran himself. he took the best fights in several weight classes for decades and fought over a hundred times. i was pretty stoned when i wrote that post and it does not read how i thought it did. my comment about Futch is more resembling my feelings with the exception of the "best case scenario" at the end.

i mean... there is always distance? a jab is a jab. i was picturing a hearns-esque Ali in this hypothetical.

    Definitely possible.

If a boxer became lineal by cleaning out the LHW division, and made a few defences, then did the same thing at cruiser, then moved up to HW and did the same thing there, he could be in the conversation.

It's definitely possible by a boxer who is naturally from a lower weight and moved up to Heavyweight, like Bob Fitzsimmons or Ezzard Charles, but I think OP was asking in the case of somoene who only fought as a heavyweight.

10:43 23:07 34:17 36:23 Chuvalo found Ali a pretty easy target, specifically to the body and Duran was a better body puncher than anyone Ali fought aside from Frazier.

Smaller guys aren`t always more skilled but yes Duran was far more skilled than Ali and Shavers.

Ali`s reach was the same length as Hearns, 78 inches, I don`t get your point, Hearns was a freak at 154.

Ali`s reach is the same length as Usyk`s, Duran had small reach at 154 where he fought Hearns but did not have a small reach for a lightweight, his prime weight where he would never have ever met a fighter with Tommy`s reach.

Correct and when did Ali face a world class fighter 6 inches taller than him?
