Think of all of the great Heavyweight Champions and how we remember them...Ali, Louis, Dempsey, etc.

Now think of how many of them actually WON their last fight

    Ali lost to Berbick
    Frazier Drew with Floyd Cummings
    Louis was KO'd by Marciano
    Dempsey lost to Tunney
    Foreman "lost" to Briggs

    Please add on...

For a while, Lewis was hoping to fight Kirk Johnson in Canada, but Vitlai blew Kirk Johnson out. After the match Vitlai called Lewis out on camera. Lewis told the press several time he would take a re-match.

A re-match that would paied Lewis $15 million was offered. That's an insane amount of money! The WBC said take the re-match or lose your belt. Lewis decided to retire instead. If Lewis felt he would win the re-match, he's a cinch to take that offer.

From a legacy standpoint- he didnt need the fight.

    Vitaly did but Lewis didn't.

Additionally, how old would Lennox have been? 39? 40? Sorry but that in no way hurt Lewis. Lewis TKO6 V. Klitschko, get over it, Mendoza.

Obviously Gene Tunney and Rocky Marciano won their last fights.

    Tunney over Heeney

    Marciano over Moore

Struggling vs Vitali sure showed Lewis he didn't have it anymore. He walked away perfectly. Not like he needed the money and not like he didn't beat Vitali either , leaving him with a horrendous cut. When it's gone it's gone, and few are smart enough or in the position to get out of the game when they should, unlike Lewis.
