It's interesting seeing the differences between these resumes and the ones on the sister thread. Some guys improve significantly and others remain the same...

This is very good but some of these boxers weren't rated when they fought them.

Overall record vs. top 10 opposition (incl. 2 light-heavyweight champs): 31-3

Rocky Marciano fought 11 out of 49 opponents while they were rated in the top 10. He beat all 11 of them.

The only boxers that were rated in the top 10 when Rocky fought them were Walcott, Charles and LaStarza twice each, Louis, Moore, Layne, Matthews and Cockell. So that means he fought only 8 boxers, 11 times that were rated in the top 10 at the time he fought them.

This is what you had on Rocky:

    Rocky Marciano 14-0-0 (12)
Muscato, La Starza (x2), Layne, Beshore, Louis, Savold, Matthews, Walcott (x2), Charles (x2), Cockell, Moore (11)

Phil Muscato (December 1949) was last rated in the top 10 in June of 1948, he fought Rocky the next year after losing 4 in a row and 5 out of his last 6.

Freddy Beshore (August 1951) was last rated in October 1950, Rocky fought him in August of 1951. He lost 7 of his last 9 bouts before he fought Rocky.

Lee Savold (February 1952) was last rated in 1951, Rocky stopped him in 1952.

Hhascup, that's the point of this thread.

I'd previously created a thread counting only rated opposition at the time of the fight. (The link for this thread is on here)

This thread has broader horizons and counts rated opposition at any time.

They differ significantly from my results and i'm assuming it's not just my arithmetic that's let me down.

Have you used ring rankings here? I used the year end rankings so anyone slipping out of the monthly rankings would have been missed by me.

I don't mean to be a pain but would you be able to list the resume's of these 3 regarding the criteria of opposition who have at one time featured in the top ten of the ring magazine rankings.

I have a list of all the fighters that were ever rated by Ring Magazine. It took me a long time to make out this list. Some of these fighters were rated during the year, but not at the end the year.

The fighters I listed were rated at one time or another by Ring Magazine.

My friend, you are a legend!

Making that list must have been very laborious but wholly worthwhile!

Thankyou very much for your contribution :)

Yes year end rankings tell me so much but monthly tell me even more, unfortunately i've not come across an easily accessible monthly ranking archive.

Still I did what I could by cross referencing certain victories to get a feel for ranking changes not listed.

Thanks for the kind words. I am still working on this, as I have gotten up to June of 2004 for the Heavyweights and 1996 for the rest.

I have been so busy the last couple of years with the Amateur boxing program in New Jersey, as I am now the President of. Besides that I have been the President of the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame now for close to 26 years, the President of the New Jersey Diamond Gloves for 24 years, I am an editor on BoxRec, I am also on 2 Committees for the International Boxing Hall of Fame to pick fighters to go into the Hall of Fame in both the Modern and Old-Timers division. Besides that I am also the boxing historian for Ring 8, Ring 25, the NJ Boxing Hall of Fame and the Boxing Writers Assocaition of America. I also ring announce almost every Amateur show and several pro shows as well, and I MC several boxing events around the New Jersey/New York area.

I am also a Deacon and Treasurer of my church.

I know I am leaving somethings out, But I think you get the idea.

Until june of 2004 is really fantastic, i'm very confident that I have the resume's of vitali and wlad complete, heavyweight is the main division i'm interested in, I have somewhat of an obsession with the division as this thread and the sister thread demonstrate!

You do sound a very busy man! I'm a high school teacher so am quite busy myself but not overwhelmed by any stretch, especially over the summer months!

Wlad now 20-2 (16), 21-2 (17) if Mormeck's cruiserweight rating is taken into account.
