I suppose there's a grey area as to what constitutes a one-punch KO (because of attrition effect od accumulation of punches), but IYO, which world HW champions succumbed to one KO punch to lose their title ? I have : Jim Corbett Jack Johnson Jack Sharkey Ezzard Charles Jersey Joe Walcott Buster Douglas Michael Moorer Lennox Lewis Hasim Rahman Alphabet title holders : John Tate - WBA title Braddock I think was definitely ready to drop from any hard punch after a prolonged beating, so I draw the line at him. Fitzsimmons ? Did he lose to Jeff first time by one big punch ?
Sharkey kind of twice, as he blew the Schmeling fight (for the vacant crown) with one 'alleged' low blow...
Fixed. Tyson considered himself champion when he knocked out Berbick. I just reviewed that footage, and a case could be made that Tyson's final hook alone was responsible, not in combination with the preceding right to the body. (No body shot could account for Trevor falling down repeatedly like that.) Moorer himself has indicated that he was already out on his feet when Foreman put over the finisher, so that might be argued for either way I suppose.
by that same criteria, Bob Foster's ko of Dick Tiger was a 1-2...it was a left uppercut that raised Tiger's chin into place for that horrendous left hook. However, just because a ko punch was prededed by another, as in Lewis's ko of Rahman, it really dosen't mean much..as it was that screamin' right hand that Lewis hit him with that did all the damage..the first punch was just a set up shot.
A lot of the ko's that the TS has already mentioned were fights where one punch ended it suddenly. I wonder is that what he was looking for beacause spinks was down and hurt from a body shot before the right to the head that finished him.
Yeah, I wouldn't count Spinks because he'd just got up from a knockdown when the finishing blow landed. I guess I mean someone being in the fight one second, then knocked out of it with one punch. I stand corrected on Hasim Rahman, he took two big punches at the end.
I considered that one, but I think Berbick had been knocked dizzy for a few minutes leading up to that.
:thinkFair enough. I merely wanted to suggest the possibility that some would interpret it as a single shot win, and you've confirmed the idea had occurred to you.
