Gerry Cooney could possibly have netted $1B with a long run and $50M purses weren’t out of the question for stay-busy defenses in the 1980s landscape. Worst-case he’d have been as big as Tyson later was.

Jerry Quarry came pretty close to being a WBA champion on April 27 1968 against Jimmy Ellis, but he did fall short of the victory on points.

I know he fell into vices after this fight. I wonder if he would of fallen into them anyway with the limelight, money and attention. His reign would of been another on the carousel of short champions of the 80s. But if he could of had his head on straight, his team could probably milk that title reign for a while (I'm sure they would of tried to pick careful opposition as they could for title defenses)
