I was searching through boxrec, memorizing fight records so that I can pretend I know something about boxing, and I keep coming accross this guy. He's basically a journeyman, with a 14-15 fight record, but he's only 22 years old!

**** this guy is a total veteran and he's still a kid! He's lost 15, but he's only been stopped once (by Shannon Briggs, when he was what, 19 years old?) and he's got a lot of rounds under his belt against some pretty decent opposition. He's on a 4-win winning streak, and although it probably wont last, looks like he's improving. At least on paper.

What I wanna know is, can a guy who starts his career as a journeyman, learn from his experience and end up a contender? We all know that Bernard Hopkins lost some of his early fights, so did Johnny Nelson, Jameel McCline and one or two others. But can someone with 15 losses make it?

I mean, in 5 years time this guy will be 27, and will be one of the most experienced fighters in the division! Thinking about it, even when he loses, he's gaining vast amounts of ring-craft and experience, which down the line will make him a good fighter. He probably wont make any noise anytime soon, but who knows, is it possible that despite starting out as a journeyman he could build on those losses and wind up champion, or will his lack of natural talent hold him back.

Anyone here ever seen him fight? here's the record he's ranked 32 by boxrec, which seems a little optimistic. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=219753&cat=boxer

**** he's 60 fights and he's only 23? I dont fancy his chances of avoiding brain damage.

I dont think Logan's gonna go anywhere tbh, waaay too many defeats and he shoulda started winning by about the 40th fight if he was ever gonna get anywhere. This guy King actually seems like he's improving with age, he's got some decent looking wins recently, albeit over guys I've never heard of.

Well, Mike Weaver did pretty well for himself. He had nine losses when he won the WBA title from Tate on a spectacular, come-from-behind 15th round knockout. Although he "only" had nine losses when he won the title, I think he definitely falls into this category of journeyman made good.

Perhaps an even better example is Freddie Pendleton, who had close to 20 losses before he won a title belt.

Pendleton was 17-15 when he first fought Livingstone Bramble, and ended up with a 47-26 record, and won the IBF lightweight title. For a 17-15 journeyman, that's not bad.

to be honest i think this guy might have an eating problem going on boxrec only you can see that he was 220 pounds when he started and is now 270 odd...thats not a good sign.

    Carlos Baldomir....

But I don't see why not. He has a lot of miles on his body for a young kid, but in his past three fights, he's beaten a highly touted Don Hing HW prospect (Stiverne) and a former Canadian heavyweight titleholder (Olubowale). Problem is that he's going to have trouble getting fights against guys who are ranked with such a crappy record.

He's in the same position as Maurice Harris, he was a great fighter when he could be arsed, but he never seemed to get a break.

Well, he's ok, nothing really special, he fought in Canada a couple of months ago, and his last opponent was the Canadian Heavyweight Champ, Raymond Olubowale, who is 6'7. King looked really sloppy, at 6'1 at 276, and really only won because of constant rabbit punches that the ref let happen.
And the boxer that started his streak Jason Weiss is a horrible journeyman, big, tall, super slow jab. I watched this guy get knocked out last year.

But King does have a TKO win over canadian prospect Bernmane Stiverne, so maybe there is promise in him. Hopefully he can get his weight down

Freddie Pendleton, Mike Weaver, even Billy Conn, to some extent.
