The fight on saturday night was disappointing IMO. Vitaly did not have Wlad's fluidity but was much more willing to stand in the pocket and take guys out.

We were very spoiled in the 90's is all I can say. It seemed like there were several great HW bouts every year. Now we are lucky to have an exciting fight every 2-3 years. Brewster-Lyocovitch (can't spell his name) was the last outstanding HW title fight with some ebb and flow IMO. The last Peter-McCline was boring for the most part except for the knockdowns. Wlad and Iggy were sparring for 12 rounds. Povetkin comes to fight and is one of the few aggressive heavyweights right now. Maskaev-Peter might be a good fight.

I think it's more because he didn't really try to, Magoo. That's the issue I have with Wlad right now. Igbragimov was there for the taking, but Wlad seems reluctant to take even the slightest risk.

It just seems to me like he's basically using a very 'amatuerish' style - one that has worked so far to be fair - but I'd like to see more than a jab and right cross. He has a wider selection of punches, but he chooses not to use them.
I'd like to see him actually throw a body punch now and then as well.

You've made a fool out of yourself. Purrity beat up on Wlad round after round, Wlad did not just run out of steam as you suggest but copped a beating from the mid-rounds on. 'not landing a meaningful punch' - have you even watched the fight?

Brewster as powerful as Lewis/Tyson  Muppet

Wlad looked gunshy, built like Hercules ,with the nature of a mouse,on the undercard Duddy proved he has a good chin ,zero defence or boxing brain ,Pavlik would eat him,he was lucky his opponent wasnt in thhe best of shape and gassed a bit ,otherwise he would have his first loss,a terrible night for Heavyweight boxing ,two guys eliminated themselves.

Who made a fool of themselves ? Purity did not beat up on Wlad round after round. This implies the fight was all Purity's. It wasn't. If you want the facts, Wlad came into the fight young, having never gone past 8, and was slightly ill. He was also fighting in his hometown and tried too hard to impress. Poor corner advise, and an iron headed opponent were factors on the punch out as well. Wlad won and landed hard shots round until round 10 where he began to tire. Maybe Purity won one round in the first nine.

Puritty took control of the fight after Wlad tired in round 10, and began to land flush shots from rounds 10-11. By the way, Purity can hit, and Wlad took plenty of bombs before his corner stopped the fight.

Tyson was a special hitter. I think he hit a little harder than Brewster, but Brewster to me had a much better heart, and a better chin. You need a heart and a chin to overcome a beating / knockdowns to win. Brewster had this, and speical motivation on the fight due to the passing of his trainer.

You can't fault his heart or honesty though. He gained a new fan on Saturday, and I wish him all the best.

heavyweights are fat tubs of lard, and Klitschko - Ibragimov was the first fight ive evr fallen asleep through the should have a cut off weight and make a super heavy division (even thought the are to many weights but it needs to be done)

    Yes, I agree.

Wlad needed to be more aggressive, and he clearly fought this match on autopilot. He defintately has more weapons in his arsenal, and for whatever reason, chooses to be one dimensional. The only thing keeping Wlad from reaching his potential is Wlad.

Didnt see any lard on Clinchko,he is as perfect a physical specimen as Ive seen in the ring, but his balls seem to have shrunk since his ko defeats, way to timid.

Plenty of heart ,but needs seasoning more,no head movement to speak of,he was in peril a few times there, they need to give him some distance fights against durable ,but not explosive guys, before putting him in with the elite of his division.

    RockyJim,

Its heavyweight champion of the world now more so that 1950. Ask someone outside the western world if they care. I bet you would be surprised.

I am sorry but boxing fans in the west still have a problem with accepting non-American heavyweight champions. IMO this narrow and dogmatic view of boxing needs to stop. Wlad is extremely popular in Europe and parts of Asia, and every boxing fan in the west knows who he is.

I chalk up Wlad's loss to Purity as a Tyson-Tillis or Ali-Jones type of fight where the up and coming prospect has a tough time with a tough journeyman who puts up a better fight than expected. All fighters go through these moments on thier ascension to the top. Fortunataly for Tyson and Ali they came up with the W's. I don't give him a free pass entirely as he should have been able to pull out the fight but I understand that this loss not a reflection of his ability.

Tyson was indeed a special hitter and yes he did hit harder than Brewster. But to me, Tyson had the better heart and most certainly the more proven chin. During both thier hey-day's Tyson's superior talent usually came into play long before his intangibles came into question. Brewster on the other hand put his heart on display more frequently because of his limitations as a fighter. Krasniqi, Liachovich, Klitschko I are examples of that. I should also mention that Brewster quit on his stool at the age of 33.

Tyson was rocked more than Brewster was, fouled more often, and DQ'd / quit more often, and kncoked down more often. Brewster had more heart for sure. Chins are debatable, but I think Brewsters' was slightly better and because he didn't have Tyson's overall skill set he needed it to win.
