Say what you want, but 2015, when Fury beat Wlad, to Present has been the best heavyweight era since 90's.

Joshua vs Wlad, Joshua vs Povetkin, Fury vs Wilder trilogy, Joshua vs Usyk, Wilder vs Ortiz, AJ vs Ruiz, Ruiz vs Ortiz, Zhang vs Joyce and...

And IF we manage to get that 4 fight tournament in Saudi.... that would be the greatest thing in boxing for decades.

I'm really gonna miss this era, even though it could have been a lot better.

Usyk and Wilder are definitely gone in 2 years, AJ and Fury probably not far after, if they last that long. Zhang, Joyce will be gone.

    Who's left? Hrgovic? Dubois?

Are there any real exciting young heavyweights?

Joshua, Fury and Usyk were already stars in their late 20's.

    Please don't say Jared Anderson...

The only good thing about the next era is when some fat slob with no skills wins a belt with a punchers chance then 40 year old Fury comes out of retirement to smash him up.

Usyk will retire this year after Fury beats him and Fury should follow but won't.

You could have Muhammad I'm hard Bruce Lee in the division but if there isn't competition nobody cares.

It's a real shame that no heavyweight has emerged to disrupt the "big three" (Fury, Wilder, AJ) in over half a decade. Someone from the cruiserweight category had to show up. If it's the best that Andy Ruiz has produced in 6 years; then this is a really weak era.
Weak era or weak next era?

'The Uzbek Klitschko' ( used to be his nickname, Wlad is his idol) has to be the front runner

Then there's plenty of good fighters but who knows just how good they'll prove to be - Hrgovic, Dychko, Gassiev, Sirenko, Anderson and so on, and guys in the amateurs that'll turn pro.

Just like people wrote off Fury when he was younger. And Usyk when he moved up to heavyweight. Some will prove to be the goods.

Jalolov and Anderson are both good prospects but neither will reach the fame/popularity of AJ.

It's been a fun era that's for sure, despite some notable fights not happening, or at least not happened yet.

And yes the next era doesn't look promising. Even if Jalolov lives up to his potential, who is he going to face? It doesn't look like it will be a deep era.

It's been shiit to tell the truth. Fury, the man. Has fought two ranked opponents in a decade. And one of those was KO'd by a 40 year old Povetkin the previous year.

I agree. This era only seems good because it followed the Klitschko Era which was the absolute worst era HW boxing has ever seen. 2 big stiff boring idiots with zero charisma refusing to fight each other to face bums instead.

If it wasn’t for Mayweather and Pacquiao holding it down in the early 2010s, boxing would have probably died for good.

This era sucked ass. Think about how many fights we could have gotten and didn't. There are still ton of fights that can be made between the top guys, and it's just not happening. What a joke

Yup, it's true.. especially Wilder, he will be missed most of all.

May be Francis NGondu can come over from UFC and make some noise. Put him in against Lucas Browne or someone of his ilk, but Ngondus no spring chicken either.

It's Tank and Devin and possibly Shakur, that's all we have for the next 5+ years.

That remains to be seen. Though lack of potential comeback/move up in weight fighter to mix things up doesn't bode well for the lethargic landscape of heavyweight.

Jared Anderson has flawed defense but why would that stop him from becoming one of the divisions best? Wilder and AJ are both flawed fighters as well.

    This was Fury in 2017.
    https://m.independent.ie/sport/othe...l-2018-bout-with-anthony-joshua/35686747.html
He was 28 stone and no one believed he was still #1, it was shameful the ring kept him there.

    So excluding Fury, 2017 was:
    1. Joshua
    2. Wilder
    3. Parker

Plus you could make the same argument about the five year period of ring ratings for 1970-1974 Ali, Foreman and Frazier.

    1970
    1. Frazier
    2. Ali
    3. Foreman

    1971
    1. Frazier
    2. Ali
    3. Quarry
    4. Foreman

    1972
    1. Frazier
    2. Ali
    3. Foreman

    1973
    1. Foreman
    2. Ali
    3. Frazier

    1974
    1. Ali
    2. Foreman
    3. Frazier

What an awful period of boxing that must have been ;)
