Some fights I'd personally like to see in '08 up and down the ratings, not just at the top. Povetkin vs. Wlad: Looks like it could happen. Ibragimov could possibly knock off Wlad, so not a given. Will be interesting watching Povetkin pressure Wlad. Povetkin vs. Peter: Two strong, aggressive fighters matching strength. Chambers vs. Liakhovich: Both guys lost eliminators. This would be a nice winner bounces back into contention fight. Valuev vs. Tye Fields: Battle of the Mongoloids. Fields has been improving, why not throw him in as a tuneup for Valuev? Arum was talking about this matchup last year. Holyfield vs. Moorer: Rematch of the shot ex-champs. Both guys are faded but won't retire. Why not fight each other. Arreola vs. Brock: Good test for young up-and-comer. S. Ibragimov vs. Chagaev: This would be an intriguing tactical matchup between fighters of similar skill levels. Thompson vs. Dimentrenko: Two tall, rangy fighters. Thompson probably has the better skills, and has the ranking. A chance for Dimetrenko to move up. McCline vs. Maskaev: McCline/Ruiz has some intrigue but this is a better matchup. Good title fight if Maskaev miraculously upsets Peter, or a McCline/Peter rematch. Meehan vs. Golota: Both guys are angling for another title shot. Kali is underrated and Golota looks to be fading a bit after struggling with Mollo. Winner moves on, loser moves on to the old folks home. JC Gomez vs. JF Bergeron: Battle of the Three Named Feather-fisted Counterpunchers. Boring on paper for most, but for this fight nerd, another intriguing tactical matchup of countering southpaw heavyweights. What was it Larry Merchant said about southpaw heavyweights? Something like, "they should be strangled at birth." Gotta love Larry. Brewster vs. Briggs: Slow Shot Bomber vs. Slow Shot Bomber. Sounds like a natural fight to me. Mesi vs. McCall: The Atomic Bull vs. The Atomic Bullshitter. A nice step up for Mesi in his "comeback." As much as a I hate to say it, McCall is still a serviceable heavyweight. Roman Greenburg vs. Sinan Samil Sam: Greenburg is overrated to me, but immobile, yet capably strong Sam is a good test of just how overrated. That's all for now...
I would think Bergeron would be sticking around after looking relatively good against Valuev. L'heureux on the other hand, would do well to retire.
Vitali Peter or Maskaev Vitali Valuev Holy Moorer Byrd Toney Holy McCall Wlad Chag Tua Peter Tua Briggs Povetkin Ibragimov Virchis Peter Virchis Briggs Virchis Tua Peter Briggs Wlad Valuev
Let's start with the only elite fighter in the div best: Wlad Feb.> vs. Iggy > Wlad TKO 6 July > vs. Thompson > Wlad TKO 1 :rofl November > vs. Valuev (WBA/WBO/IBF) > Wlad TKO 7 if wlad can pull that off he would deserve to be the fighter of the year but Ring hates him and still wouldn't recognize him as champ. Other good potential matches: Peter vs. Vitali >> vitali tko 8 Vitali vs. Virchis >> vitali tko 10 Povetkin vs. Haye >> povetkin ud Povetkin vs. Peter >> peter sd Chagaev vs. A Live Body :yep Peter vs. Haye >> peter ud Sultan vs. Chambers >> sultan ud Vitali vs. Haye >> Vitali tko 3 Oleg vs. Vitali >> Vitali tko 6 Brewster vs. Peter >> peter ud
sam peter is gonna have trouble knocking any top 20 hw out. he is becoming more of a controlled boxer now. his crazy swinging style was good enough to ko guys like williams and julius long but when u step up to world-class competition guys just dont stand in front of u waiting to get tagged. if he continues to sharpen up his punches and lay off the stripclubs a bit he can be a top 5 guy for awhile. against wlad, however, his new controlled style will end him. he'd have to go back and fight like a wildman to pull the upset. One has to wonder about his present punch resistance though :think nobody but u and your fellow peter nuthuggers fourtyounce and amb-def are buying this mythical power crap anymore. dude is friggin tank, no doubt about it and probably the strongest in terms of raw strength. but his below average technique makes him an ineffective puncher most of the time. povetkin-peter would be a great fight and is too close to call right now but id love to see it
One bad fight against Mccline who has early round power, does not mean he has a glass chin like Harrison or Wlad, if he gets layed out against Maskaev, then I would agree with you. Taking a fight on 9 days notice is hard, but Peter wanted to fight and it cost him in a way. Peter will be fully prepared coming in, and his looking to take Maskaev out early, with a brutal overhand right.:yep
i didnt say he has a bad chin. all i said was it's hard to get a read now. u just cant assume he can take bombs for a full 12 now. he can be hurt and perhaps knocked out. will he fight more cautiously now? one has to wonder. as far as his conditioning goes, i don't buy that nine day deal. he was in top form against wlad, but then came in horribly overwieght in the first toney fight, which he had months and months to prepare for and it was title eliminator. he's clearly got conditioning issues and i think it's just part of him being inconsistent. u surround yourself with guys like king, duva, and gotzev ur asking for trouble
Fair enough, I just hate this punch resistance theory ****, and the fact that some people think Wlad broke his chin or something, that fight was in September of 05, two years before the Mccline fight, Peter has had what 5 fights inbetween that, I think we would of seen earlier if that was the case. If Peter gets knocked out by Maskaev, then I'm convinced some of you guys are right, but I dont see it happening. Peter fought Mccline not only on 9 days notice, but 9 months since his last fight, which was the longest layoff of his career, which we can blame Maskaev for. Fighting a guy 260-270 6'6 versus Maskaev 6'2 and a half 230-235, is a big difference, not to mention 2 complately different fighting stlyes. You can say I'm making excuses for Samuel, but what I'm stating are facts, the proof will be there come fight time, when Maskaev will probably get brutally layed out for all to see.
the point i was trying to make was why did peter come in at 257 against toney? u can't use those excuses there. like i said, i feel he is inconisistent.
