Ok, he came in at 257, he made a mistake, but he probably relied to much on his power and almost payed the price for it, because the match was close and could of easily gone to Toney. He wised up and came in at under 250 the next fight and dominated Toney in a boxing match, so he learned from his mistake. I read reports Peter plans on coming in at 245 or under for his fight against Maskaev, if he does that, he will be almost unstoppable IMO.
I think Rahman is a better boxer than Peter with a far better jab & more powerful punches. Look what Maskaev did to him twice............................... Do the math, this is a 50/50 fight at best for Peter. Yes Maskaev has a somewhat weak chin but he hasn't been KO'd in quite a long time. His boxing & defense is better & his power is still there............... Oleg hasn't been KO'd since '02 & he's currently riding a 12 fight winning streak. Give the man his dues.
Rahman doesnt have the power Peter does, Peter destroyed Sykes in a couple rounds, and punching him so Brutally his head hit off the ropes and he ended up melting to the canvas. We all seen how much trouble Rahman had with Sykes about a year ago, Rahman's legs buckled in that fight.
i totally agree. this is a coinflip fight. to be fair, maskaev fought a lot of bums in those 12. he might just have rahman's number. he's fought 1 time in the last 18 months, he's near 40, and coming off some nasty injuries. who knows if he's got anything left. peter is younger, more active, and made some improvements. to tell u the truth, i wouldn't be surprised with any result but i am betting on a maskaev ud for obvious reasons :nod it's amazing though that maskaev is paying 3.5 to 1 to win on vcash. that's a great value bet. i dont even think the punisher or 40ounce would lay down on peter who's paying ****. Peter is nearly as big a favorite as wlad
I never said Rahman's chin was better than Peter's but I do believe his power is better aqnd he's def. a better boxer.
I will give you this, in Rahmans prime, both Peter and Rahmans power were about equal. Rahmans not exactly a great boxer either, he's similiar to Peter, they both fall in love with the overhand right too much. But Rahmans jab in the early 2000's was very powerful, just under used by him.
True about Rahman not using his jab enough but it's still a better jab than any I've ever seen Peter throw. Rahman throws his punches straighter than Peter too, making them hard to telegraph, just ask Lewis.
I agree, but Peter has been straighting his punches more as of late. Both men can be wild at times, so I say there pretty equal in that regard.
Please remember that Oleg also was put to sleep by Corey Sanders. That's COREY Sanders, as in 350 pounds, T-Rex Sanders, not CORRIE Sanders.
Good matchmaking, agustus! Greenberg is totally overrated.I quite agree with you.Though Sam seems to be over the hill struggling with average jourenyman like Olic and looking fat like Pavarotti he probably still has enough to beat the likes of Greenberg. Povetkin vs Peter? Nah! Peter couldnt hold a candle to Povetkin at the amateurs. I for my part would prefer watching Peter vs Virchis instead. Two of the most feared bangers meeting each other in the ring. Peter isnt exactly known for his great skills, but he plays in a different league when compared with Virchis who has more pop in his fists and needs a stationary target.Peter can bang as well, but he would be that stationary target.I would bet my house that this fight wouldnt go the full route. Gomez would probably teach Bergeron a lesson in boxing.
Valuev vs Fields would be a good one.. Valuev would ofcourse win.. Also like Thompson vs Dimitrenko - Close call. I suggested Meehan vs Golota some time ago aswell, good fight it would be. Finally, i also agree very much about Roman Greenberg. He is seriously boring and lazy. Edit: I gotta disagree with one of them though - Brewster v Briggs, that would be so boring, you need one fighter to be active for anything to happen.
Oleg wasn't himself in that fight man.... And i don't think Corey was 350 pounds in that fight.... He used to be in great shape when fighting the likes of Oleg and Golota..... He only recently got high in weight.
Just curious but how was he not himself? He looked to be in shape, just sort of plodded along and got blasted out by Sanders. Sanders was actually 312, but trust me, he was fat and out of shape. Credit Maskaev for coming back from the abyss to win a title, even though to me he's unimpressive.
