On a somewhat related note, do you happen to have a link to a newspaper with Mike Tyson's "everyone was doing it" quote? Just wanted to put it on record in this thread alongside McCline's similar statement, for those who want additional corroboration that it's widespread.
Lewis and Ruddock's steroid spat: https://www.upi.com/Archives/1992/10/29/Lewis-Ruddock-spar-over-steroids/7345720334800/ https://www.tampabay.com/archive/1992/10/30/ruddock-lewis-spar-over-steroid-use/?outputType=amp
Mike Tyson’s coke and weed were definitely not performing enhancing drugs. Performance diminishing drugs maybe
No worries. I'm sure I'll bump into it again. I think it's in one of the articles where he admits to faking the urine tests.
I just remember the interview taking a steroid turn and Mike kind of verbally eye rolls the guy like it should be common knowledge. You know when Tyson get's in those real combative and depressive states in interviews and just "Yes, No, **** off" is the flavour. It I think was around the early 2000s I hope it helps. Could be he was saying it with a wink to annoy the person and Tyson was natural but who knows.
Can't find it yet, but here are a couple others saying it's widespread to put alongside McCline: https://syndication.bleacherreport....e-in-boxing-far-greater-than-we-know.amp.html https://www.*******.com/amp/mia-st-john-comes-clean-on-use-peds-estimated-20-fights--130830
What's strange is that it seems like performances are similar or worse with the ped era not better from what ive seen.
At popular request, I've distinguished people who just failed marijuana tests from people who failed other tests. Marujuana-only positive tests (which there are some statements from Tyson that it improves performance, but be that as it may...) are now in This content is protected Cocaine is still red, though, since people were alleging its use as a performance enhancing stimulant as early as Dempsey, IIRC I also highlighted Dillian Whyte, one of the instances of Tyson Fury, and Joseph Parker (for skipping/missing a test, although I'm wondering whether that should be a different color, since it's technically not a positive or suspension.)
Anyway, this thread has really strengthened my suspicions about how widespread PED use is. It's actually quite remarkable when you just lay it all out. There's much more positive evidence than I thought. As tests get better, more and more of the top 10 list gets red. I'm thinking guilty until proven innocent is the more accurate lens to view this stuff. I suspected it before, but I'm more convinced now.
I’m very suspicious of Usyk. The guy’s abdomen is damn near wider than his shoulders but he isn’t fat.
Michael Hunter missing, but not failing, a test: https://boxing-social.com/news/sula...c-clean-boxing-program-whereabouts-violation/ I think he's the same Michael Hunter who got caught for marijuana as an amateur in 2011: https://www.usada.org/sanction/usa-boxing-athlete-accepts-sanction-for-doping-violation/
Tyson working (comparatively late in his career, around 2003?) with the same bodybuilding nutritionist who worked with Ronnie Coleman: https://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drobson242.htm Hearns accuses Leonard of PED use in 1989. As an interesting side note, this article also confirms that steroids aren't banned by the WBC in 1989, which the Lennox Lewis article also stated: https://www.upi.com/Archives/1989/0...-Leonards-newly-bulging-biceps/2795613281600/ Holyfield refuses a steroid test against Bowe in 1992. The commission backs his refusal. The article explains just how nonexistent steroid testing was in the early 90s. (For example: "Holyfield says he is willing to take a steroid test, but no boxing commissions in the United States administer them.") https://www.upi.com/Archives/1992/11/09/Boxing-Notebook-Bowe-camp-wants-steroid-tests/4571721285200/
Are you sure Thyrolar counted as a PED? Benzendrine was found in Ali's system after the fight, though, and maybe that counted as one?
