This is me...I put Fury at a 7.5 before he potentially knocks somebody else out. Shavers said Holmes definitely hit harder than Ali, both jab and right hand. Of course, that was a past it Ali and prime Holmes. I tend to agree with him on the jab. Ali had a much harder and better left hook, but Holmes had him on the right uppercut. In fact, Holmes' right uppercut was the closest thing he had to a power punch. On straight right/overhands I edge that to Ali.
Fury is about a 6.5 out of ten and needs to be tested vs more top ten types. Wilder is tricky, I'd say about a 9 with the landing ability of a " 6 " and I'm being kind.
I've said this before but Fury actually has pretty poor to middling pound for pound power. He makes up for that fact by being a skilled boxer and approaching 300 lbs in weight. He admitted he puts on weight to increase his power. Someone like Mike could cave in a head near at 218 lbs. A lower weight class Fury would be considered feather fisted.
Anthony Joshua is a 9 on the power scale? Lol Power is honestly overrated ... Knock out ability is what matters .... Guys like Bert Cooper had stupid power but are never mentioned on these lists We don't know who hit the hardest but we can determine who the best knock out artists are ... All the time we have discussions on here in whether or not Shavers hit the hardest or if Wilders right hand is the most powerful punch in history .... Nobody knows until these guys are measured ....
While i think Lewis had slightly more raw power, Tucker who fought Lewis was not the same fighter who fought Tyson. Tuckers fast legs allowed him to escape Tyson. He was a fading fighter vs Lewis.
Fury's weakest attribute is probably punch power but like OP said he has at least 8.5/10 power. He knocked Wilder down with a body shot here. Just raw power.. https://images.scribblelive.com/2020/2/23/e0cbf0fd-bc8e-4717-95cc-e50bcdf12ea8.gif
I'd add his Not a lot between Holmes and Ali. Plenty have also said Ali hit harder i.e. Ken Norton. Neither were genuine punchers but both had more than enough power to get the job done given their rather considerable assets in other area's. I think Holmes right could be a touch "heavier" but Ali's a touch more concussive with that great speed and timing. Both have "good" power in the right and when you add the speed and class behind it one can call those punches great IMO. So in summing up both Holmes and Ali had "great" right hands IMO, with outright power probably being one of the lesser reasons.
I think we can be both right. I stand by the fact that p4p he has mediocre power. However a punch coming from a 277 lbs man is gonna hurt regardless and especially if he does know how to punch. So in practical terms yes Fury has some power but imagine if Fury were in an Usyk frame body instead? what power would there be? So I dock him points for that.
I have to agree, their timing had so much to do with the right hands' effectiveness. Holmes would really erode an opponent after landing the right over and over; its consistency was usually a sign that the fight wouldn't go on too much longer.
You have a point. Relatively to his body size, he is weak. But, this logic is a bit ambigious. Just think Beterbiev as a natural heavyweight. Foreman, Shavers or Wilder would be feather fisted and beg for mercy from him.
Yes i agree. I reluctantly gave him an 8.5 but i can see an argument for 7.5 given that he hasn't displayed his power vs a iron jawed fighter yet. I need something more too. I do think he is putting more of his weight into his punches. But yes, we need to see more before deciding how good his power is. Usyk is hard to judge too. Great angles, timing, speed etc. But until he knocks out at least a few durable heavies, i can't rank him higher than a 7 or 7.5 if i am being generous. That being said, Usyk is one of the most unique punchers in heavyweight history because of the unusual angles he uses and him being a southpaw.
