I think pp might be right here. Roy beat Ruiz in march of 2003, three Weeks later Tua and Rahman fought to a draw, after which Tua didn't fight again until 2005.

That was for the IBF belt.

Tua was ranked no 2 by the WBA and after Vitali vacatad his no 1 spot to fight Lewis Tua became the highest ranked wba opponent. Under the WBA rules Jones had 6 months to fight the highest ranked opponent, which was Tua. Tua would continue to call him out and the his manager would petition the WBA for Tua to get bumped up to the no 1 mandatory spot, which eventually happened. Jones had until Sept 1 to make that fight which is when he decided it was time for him to move back down to lhw.

After the Sept 1 deadline was passed and Jones refused to make the fight then the wba would order Tua-Rahman 3 for the vacant wba belt. Jones refused to vacate the belt and threatened to sue so it ended up being for the interim belt instead. During talks Tua would notice financial irregularities which is why he dropped out of the fight to take legal action against his financial handlers. Rahman would then face Ruiz for the wba interim belt.

    It was a radio interview.

    He wasn't afraid of Jones.

He just said he didn't want to look foolish chasing Jones or something like that.
And risking losing a fight to a former middleweight, obviously.

It's on record, I've given you the source, look it up OTR website or take mine and Lester's word for it.

I don't need to prove it, I followed boxing during the period, you haven't as you keep coming up with made up bull**** like 'Tua was mandatory' when he wasn't.

Bowe KO1 or KO2, or KO whenever he happened to hit him, which I think would be sooner rather than later. Just because Jones, Jr. beat Ruiz doesn't mean he can defeat a real top flight heavy. Jones, Jr. knew it too, which is why he carefully picked Ruiz and then did not remain at heavy afterwards, avoiding the best out there.

yes, jones was interested in a sanders fight but the wbo said they'd strip sanders if he fought jones. i believe at the time the wbo would not let their champions fight other belt holders but don't quote me on that. once jones heard that, he had no interest. he said it in an interview and it's bound to be online somewhere.

here's some articles about a proposed lewis-jones fight.

Ruiz doesn't deserv to be discredited as a fighter. I don't see any evidence to suggest that he was worse than a shot Bowe.

yeah, i was going to make a comment about this as well. yes, ruiz was made to order for jones because of the styles but the comments on here that ruiz is not a real heavyweight are bull****. honestly, he's got some really decent wins over holyfield, golota, rahman, oquendo and tucker. they may have been all **** to watch but 95% of the heavys that fought in his era don't have wins this good.

can you imagine if another middle or super middleweight fighter in jones' era had jumped up to heavyweight to win a belt? more than likely they'd be given a lot of credit.

Yeah it was another sign of Roy's cowardice that he jumped up to Heavyweight (3 divisions north of his best weight) to meet an established fighter 4 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier.

The same guys who **** can Roy for this, basically fellate the likes of Carlos Monzon for staying at the one weight his entire career and feasting on naturally smaller middleweights, blown up welters and jnr middles and avoiding challenging himself against the big boys at Lt Heavy.

That's classic forum logic for you.

You are the one claiming it so you should be the one to post it up. For the record I don't believe you so it makes no sense for me to look for it. As if Holyfield was going to turn down 25m
And I have a direct quote from his lawyer saying something very different.
