This one ought to be fun. Does Lyle have the pop to dent Baer's chin? If he gets him hurt, does he know how to finish a championship level fighter? Does he have the skill to fend off Baer's biggest shots? Does he have the chin to resist them.

On the flipside, can Baer dissuade Lyle's pressure and determination? Is Baer's workrate enough to take a decision? Will Baer wilt or be intimidated?

    15 rounds, prime for prime.

A good fast boxer(Louis, Braddock) could beat Baer to the punch over and over. but in a match of bruiser versus bruiser. Lyle couldn't stand up to the sledgehammer blows of Baer. in a fireworks show, Max pounds out a solid kayo in three.

This is a really bad situation for Ron. If he does get out of the early rounds, which is entirely feasible, he'd be dealing with a slugger who would not gas. The Larruper wasn't exactly dragging his feet at the end of 20 scorching desert rounds with King Levinsky. Maxie had the chin to stand up to whatever Lyle could unload. The reverse isn't true.

Both might actually play it cautiously in this one through the first several rounds, as each was known to do from time to time. However, Maxie was better at that game, and his combination of power and stamina would cause Ron to crack late.

I have to go with Baers chin here, though Lyle could certainly give him some serious problems.

  6. lyle by ko. stronger, more muscular, great boxer-puncher, he did exchange blows with foreman and shavers. he could take a punch. foreman and shavers did hit harder than baer and joe louis. lyle was harder puncher than nova, lyle by ko.

    Baer.

Lyle would need to get rid of him early, and he couldn't. Just wasn't a good enough banger. Baer presents long term versions of the same ones Ron encountered with Foreman-Foreman was a harder hitter than Max, a better fighter, and more dangerous, but less consistent as rounds went on. Max Baer was Max Baer from rounds 1 to 15, and Lyle had bad fading problems. I can't see him being behind in the fight and any point, but that won't matter. The round he fades is the round he's removed from the contest by Baer.

This is Baer when he wanted to kill the other guy, mind you. Clowning Maxie might fall behind and stay there, even when Lyle gasses and freezes.

Baer would win the battle of a big take-one give-one slugfest. His bigger right hand and better chin would do him well in this fight.

"more muscular"? What the **** is that in the way of analysis? I guess that strapping hunk of man-meat, Frank Bruno, must be rest lustily atop your all-time heavyweight list.

Lyle is going to finish a champion calibre heavy? That would be a first.

    Baer KO 11.
