There is no such thing as a decision under London Prize Ring rules. The fight continues untill a knockout is atained even if it lasts for three hours.
Wow - What a brutal tourney concept. I'm liking Marciano on paper to win this one overall, but I don't think Tunney will be able to drop a prime big Jess.
I'll go with Willard, because he KO'd Johnson in round 26, so he should be very suited to such attrition-based combat.
I'm going with Willard. Tunney's speedier, has great stamina, and is more skillful, but a prime Willard didn't tire. Tunney could stay away from Willard for a while. Unless Tunney punches both of his eyes shut like Sayers did to Heenan, though, Willard will wrestle Tunney to exhaustion and finish him off with one of those right hands.
Could Willard stay away from Tunney? As i understand the rules, they fight until one is knocked down before they get a rest. Tunney hit hard, and wouldnt be hit easily. He would land hard and do damage, probably landing three or four or more to 1. Willard will not get rest because he will not take a knee or go down. Tunney starts to wear him right down by about the 10 or 15 minute mark, and Willard will be too tired to chase him all over the place. A game Willard gets up after the first three rounds, but cant go on. tunney kos him in the 4th.
No question who has the more talent here ,but the rules give Willard a very live chance. Jess had a telescopic left jab a booming right hand and a great chin, add stamina ,and prodigious strength, and he is in with a big shout. Could quick footed Tunney , with his swift counters and whip crack right cross , do enough damage to cause a stoppage ? Does Willard ,walk through it all, and , eventually corner ,and , overpower Gene? I find myself voting for" The Tall Pine".
