You do not win a LPR fight by KO, you win when your opponent fails to come up to scratch and toe the line... And clearly as they are fights to the finish, you do not win a LPR fight on points!!!
I just voted and meant to vote for Louis, i think i did but not sure, can it be checked? If my vote went to Corbett it was an accident TBooze.
This is a very, very tough fight to predict. Corbett is quite a bit faster. But, it is hard to imagine Joe Louis not being absolutely vicious under LPR rules. Still, Corbett will be very hard to catch cleanly, and his moving will cause problems, as it did with Sullivan and even Jeffries. And you would expect, that without gloves, Corbett's underated power becomes lethal. Corbett's only losses were only ever caused by KOs, and they were KOs where a 30 second count probably would have made the difference. And his heart cant be questioned. The 60 round draw with Jackson proves that it will take something special to beat Corbett. The closest think Joe Louis fought to Corbett was Billy Conn, whose fight could have very easily turned out very different, if Conn had the chance to recover for 30 seconds and keep fighting. And Corbett never really fought someone with close to Louis' combination of power and skill, though he did fight great fighters, and was always in the fight with all of them. No matter what happens Louis definitely knows he was in a battle. I think this would be an absolute war, but a prime Corbett would not get in. I am not quite as sure that i would say the same about Joe, who was the better fighter under ordinary rules. I am going to lean towards Corbett to pull off a massive upset with Louis throwing in the town after the 60th round of a closer than expected, fight.
Louis would have trouble knocking Corbett out for the 30-count, and Corbett's style would work a lot better under LPR than Louis's. Despite the strength and punching power disparity, I'm going with Corbett.
It is very difficult to be definite about it. The first Conn fight is in my head,there again Corbett was sunk by a left hook to the pit of the stomach, by Fitz. If Louis could concentrate on a body attack and avoid hitting elbows, he might be able to slow down and ,finish Corbett off.
Corbett was helped to his feet, that one left hook had taken his legs away, which is really my point. Louis possibly did not hit any harder than Fitz ,but he hit a lot more often,and with just as much accuracy.I can see winning scenarios for both men , I am just sifting through the possibilities .
I struggle to think of a realistic scenario where Joe wins this under LPR. I am going to go Corbett because of his defensive style , great endurance and his will to win.
I do agree, but i was just reminding you that under LPR rules, a straight KO is not enough. And remember, the corners usually did drag their men up and help rescuscitate. In many ways, Corbett really does benefit from this rules. He probably gets up, even against Jeffries as an old man.
