This is a pert two to the OG thread, I've used my results but the original 8 fights is in the other thread https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/heavyweight-tourney.625528/ I always liked the idea of a potential HW tournament as seen at the end of this video (13:55) This content is protected @Rumsfeld And since I don't think Rummy himself is going to do it with the new top 5 best wins series I thought we could. I know some happened Ali vs Foreman Louis vs Tyson Liston vs Schmeling Holyfeild vs Lewis
Ali Louis by late round stoppage or decision Liston via early ko Extremely close, but most likely Lewis on points
Wait what, Ali already beat Foreman by stoppage why not just use that result? And I'd like to know the reasoning behind Holyfeild vs Lewis thanks
Just think that Foreman fought the dumbest fight of his career in that Ali fight, wailing away at Ali on the ropes in the Zaire heat until he exhausted himself. Doesn't mean that it would have happened the same way every time they fight. Still think Ali wins especially if it's the younger Ali but just think a points decision result is more likely. Lewis won the real fight against Holyfield but that Holyfield was past his best and still made it very competitive. If we are matching these fighters at their best in these scenarios, just think that the busier and a bit more versatile Holyfield would do enough to get the decision.
I can see that, but I don't think either Holyfeild fight was ultra competitive fight, Lewis dominated both in my eyes. I've always fought if they fought (prime for prime) it would be a very boring tactical affair with Holyfield trying to start a war and Lewis manipulating the range with his left hand and keeping Holyfield honest with his right. Quite like the Tua fight accept less one sided
I actually thought that while Lewis won the first fight, Holyfield done enough to win the rematch but the outcry over the draw decision meant imo, that he was never going to win any close decision in the 2nd fight. I was too young to watch the fights live so I’ve only watched it on tape and that was some time ago so maybe you’re right and my memory of it is wrong. Could be I was subconsciously biased as I do like Holyfield more than Lewis but my most vivid memories of the fight was Holyfield’s best punches seem to have more effect on Lewis chin than vise versa and Lewis’s shorts seemed to be pulled up right up to his chest, maybe to protect himself from Holyfield’s body shots. Lol.
In fairness I've not seen either for over a 2 years and I also could be wrong, but from what I remember I had Lewis clearly winning both fights, however i don't remember the exact card
Well I want to use my results Holmes beats Ali Frazier beats Louis Liston beats Schmeling Lewis beats Holyfield
