I don't disagree but I was mostly making the case that Johansson's DQ against Sanders was not so much about him having no heart, and literally running from Sanders, as it was about him having a certain strategy which back-fired badly.

Here's some footage of Ali sparring with Johansson:

I didn't say Ingo had no heart,.I think it ill behoves anyone to call a pro fighter lacking in heart, the referee was maybe a trifle harsh, but Ingo had only 3 rds to get the win ,giving up the first 2 doesnt seem a smart move to me.

I know you didn't say it but it was brought up previously.

Johansson always insisted that he was trying to wear down his bigger opponent (Sanders was 210-220 while Johansson was 180-190) and would have come back to KO him in the third. I have no idea whether he would have actually done that but knowing what punching power he had in the pros, he very well may have.

Ingo had the oomph to do it ,but its a very risky tactic in a 3 rd fight isn't it? And it wasn't a given that Sanders would slow down was it?
Sanders ultimately lost his life as the result of a ko inflicted by Leotis Martin ,if I am not mistaken.

It doesn't seem like the greatest strategy to use but that's what Johansson kept telling people. He was disgraced for a long time after that loss until winning the heavyweight title.

I believe it was Willie James that KO'd Sanders in the fight he died from. Martin did tragically cause the death of Sonny Banks, who once floored Muhammad Ali.

Ah yes I was wrong, it was Banks, thanks for the correction.Ingo finally got his medal, late in life ,I think the fact that he won the heavyweight title vindicated him from any doubts about his ticker.I read he was a nice guy ,like his old foe Floyd.
