Atlantic City is the site for this first round of action. Gene Tunney's smooth boxing skills will be put to the test with the power of Ingemar Johanssen's right hand. In the Co-Main event Strongman George Chuvalo will be facing off against John Ruiz. Ruiz comes out and immediately tries to smother Chuvalo inside. George is much stronger than Ruiz bargained for & is landing thudding shots to John's side. George's hard body attack is wearing Ruiz down by the mid rounds. Ruiz tries a late rally, but is met with stiff resistance. Chuvalo has a strong chin and is unfazed by Ruiz' punches. Chuvalo finishes off strong & has a comfortable lead. GEORGE CHUVALO. 10 DECISION. JOHN RUIZ Johanssen tries to land his bombs early, but cannot catch the slick boxing skills of Tunney. Gene gets the jab going early & has Ingemar something to think about. Johnassen tries to bull inside & Tunney meets him with a strong attack to the body. In the seventh a right hand briefly drops Johanssen! He rises to finish the round. Ingemar attacks wildly in the tenth, but cannot connect. Tunney puts on a great boxing display tonight.
