Los Angeles, California is the site for the last Doubleheader of the first round. James J. Corbett faces off against the"Wild Bull of the Pampas" Luis Firpo. & in the Co-feature Vitali Klitschko meets Bob Fitzsimmons. Corbett immediatley comes out boxing, trying to avoid the wild swinging of Firpo. In the second Firpo lands a hard right, staggering Corbett! Corbett recovers & holds on until the bell sounds. Firpo tries to rush in, but is met with fine boxing movement. Corbett has a good jab to keep Firpo at bay. By the mid and later rounds Corbett is n control and cruises to a strong finish. JAMES J. Fitzsimmons comes out fast, trying to get inside of Vitali's long reach. a strong jab from Klitschko makes this very difficult. The much smaller Fitzsimmons scores on the inside, early on, but is starting to take punishment early on. A left hook to the solar plexus has Vitali briefly backing up!
