Both fighters had tough, close victories in the first round & will now face off in the second round. Bonavena had a close shave against Primo Carnera. David Tua, by virtue of his power scored a close victory over Jerry Quarrey.

Please give reasoning for prediction. Please give predicted result.

    Second round. 12 Rounds.

    Tuaman.

Bad matchup for Oscar. He doesn't hit as hard, doesn't take a shot as well, isn't as skilled. It would be entertaining but ultimately I'd favor Tua.

An interesting thing to point out though is that the biggest punchers didn't usually effect Oscar as much. It was the crisp straight shots down the pipe that he didn't see coming that hurt him, proven by Ali, Folley etc.
Obviously Tua isn't going to stick and move and catch Oscar with a straight shot, but at the same time his left hook was lethal on the inside and could catch opponents by surprise. Oscar does have a chance here.

I might be wrong but I would take Bonavena by a decision. He was great against fighters that came right at him. Tua doesn't quite have the workrate of Frazier and he is no tougher than Chuvalo.

Bonavena has a chance against any guy shorter than him who comes right at him.

tua KO1 or 2. lands his bomb and that's it.
see the ruiz , moorer , wilson fights.
i don't think that bonavena will last as long as maskaev did.
but tua will stop him at this round or another , i say really early.

Really! No one stopped Bonavena like that. In fact, he was stopped only once in his career - in the 15th round by Ali in a tough fight. Ruiz was a good spoiler and 'stayer', but when in came to ruggedness and toughness he came nowhere near Ringo. Moorer had better overall skills but his ability to take a shot was not even close to Bonavena. I will only say Wilson, who? Oleg Maskaev got blasted out by Oliver McCall in only one round.

Don't get me wrong. I know that David had really terrific power. But some pretty average guys lasted the distance against him. I see no reason why Bonavena - one of the most rugged fighters ever to lace on a boxing glove - couldn't.

As to who will win this fight, a lot depends on whether they are to step out of a Time-Machine or if they were fighting in the same era.

    My opinion:

Time-Machine: Tua will be vastly heavier and consequently stronger than Bonavena. Based on styles, strength is going to count for a lot in this fight.
Tua wins here. Hard fought UD or late stoppage.

Same era: Modern 'advances', to which Tua had access to, is nullified. In such a situation, I feel that Ringo will be stronger though Tua will still have the advantage in punching power and a marginally better chin. Stamina will be about the same. Though somewhat crude, Bonavena had the better overall skills. Nobody should get knocked out here. I will go with Ringo to eke out a decision win here.

Bonavena by a decision...using that same awkward retreating style that he used to beat Chuvalo. Bonavena is tougher than most of todays heavies and would NOT be stopped even by Tua.

Who knows... Frazier hit Bonavena with some of the most flush hooks he ever landed again and again and again and Ringo seemed oblivious.

Wasn't a particularly intelligent guy and loved coke so that might have something to do with it.

I’d make Tua a considerable favorite, for stylistic reasons.
