Lewiston Maine is the site for the last doubleheader of the second round of the Heavyweight Tournament. James J. Corbett, the slick boxing heavyweight will be up against Australian Les Darcy. In the Co-feature, Rugged toughman Oscar Bonavena will be pitted against strongman David Tua. Corbett comes out and immediately establishes his dominence with a strong jab & good movement. darcy tries to attack & force the action. In the early going James is sticking to his gameplan. Darcy attacks in the sixth & lands a couple of hard shots. Corbett backpeddles & counters well. a cut on Darcy's left eye in the seventh is a bit of concern in his corner. Les lets it all hang out in the ninth round & lands a stinging right hand! Corbett responds with a slew of punches & has Darcy hanging on by the end of the round. The bleeding is worse & Darcy's corner signals the end of the fight! JAMES J. CORBETT. 10 TKO. LES DARCY. Bonavena goes to the inside immediately. Tua is suprised to be pressed, he is used to following opponents around the ring, trying to get away from his power. Oscar is smothering David & is landing faster shots, scoring points. In the mid rounds Tua is trying to get punching room & is letting Bonavena outwork him. Oscar's busier hands have him in the lead, Tua's corner is pleading for him to get busier. In the seventh Tua lands a couple of hard shot's, But Bonavena still comes inside unfased. In the eighth & ninth, Tua is swinging hard shots & can't believe Oscar is taking them! Bonavena's inside attack has started to take the steam out of Tua. In the tenth David furiously attacks & cannot hurt Bonavena! Oscar lands a couple of inside shots to the body. The eleventh & twelfth has tua holding on, Tua is spent & realizes he has been outhustled, he relied on this power & was simply outworked. OSCAR BONAVENA . 12 DEC.
