Rocky Marciano coming off of his stoppages of both Nicolay Valuev & Andrew Golota Will be facing as tough challenge with the smooth boxing Gene Tunney. Who is both strong and a fine boxer. Tunney coming off of strong performances against, George Chuvalo & Ingemar Johanssen. Will be hard pressed to keep the high pressure tactics of Marciano at bay.

Please give reasoning for prediction. Please give predicted result.
    Round 3. 15 Rounds.

Marciano. I don't believe Tunney has the punch to keep him off, and even a slickster like Walcott fell prey in the end.

Tunney's chin keeps him in there; Marciano's all over him towards the end, 10-5 decision.

As usual ,the ever aggressive, " Fighting Marine ",comes out blasting he goes straight to the attack, and Marciano is soon down from Gene's lethal left hook, he struggles up at 8 and covers up ,but the slugging Tunney won't be denied, two more hooks and a powerhouse right cross drop Marciano on his face , where he is counted out without a twitch of a muscle.Time, 1min 10 seconds of the first round.
"I just caught him cold "says the handsome Irish American , modestly.
"No man should be able to hit like that" says the, still stunned Marciano hours later, before going to hospital to see if his jaw is broken .

And I still waiting for the computer sim that will have Tommy Burns a winner over Ali with a ko in the first round with the very first punch.

Marciano goes all over Tunney. Tunney dances away as much as he can but can't fend him off. Marciano eventually suffocates him in the corner to drop him in the late goings of the 9th round. Tunney is game, survives, and backpeddles. His lack of activity gets booed, and his post-fight quote of Shakespeare gets a laugh out of the nearby reporters. Marciano, in a highly unregarded fight that was sloppy, erratic in action, and largely boringly one-sided wins a Unanimous Decision. The scorecards read 12-3, 9-6, 9-5-1 - certainly not the easiest fight to score. The lack of excitement from the crowd moves Tunney to consider retirement. His post fight interview ends with a sigh with Tunney calmly saying, "Maybe I'm in the wrong profession."

Why this result? Marciano would win because of his uncanny stamina and ability to throw non-stop punches from all angles. His power will get to Tunney, once it lands. Tunney dances, but not rhythmically, he stays away and jabs occasinonally but finds the crouch Marciano dips into a lot harder to hit than he would've thought. The fact that Tunney stands so straight up too, doesn't help. Tunney doesn't take any chances getting into any wild exchanges, and eventually, Marciano times and corner him. On occasion, of course, but once dropping him. Marciano losses some rounds, and suffers a minor cut below the right eye. However, Marciano's pressure, coupled with his aggression and activity give him most of the close rounds. Marciano does the most damage, never gets hit and wins most to all of the big exchanges. Tunney jabs, moves, and throws the straight occasionally. He starts off fairly good, but by round 5 the fight is clearly turned to Marciano's favor. The scorecards are more a representation of how difficult the fight was to score, rather than how close the fight was. Judges seemed to prefer the forward aggression coupled with the more crowd-pleasing action, regardless of how ineffective some of those combination Rocky lauds Tunney with.

Tunney was strong enough on the inside to handle Dempsey. Could he possibly be strong enough on the inside against Marciano, & keep the action on the outside to score effectivly?

Yes and yes. For fifteen rounds? No. I would pick him over 10.

    Marciano KO14.

Marciano's resume is particularly strong on technical boxers with wins over Walcott, Charles, Moore, LaStarza, Matthews and others.

This makes me inclined to favour him in this case.

I am calling it Marciano UD.

Marciano on points. Might be a replay of the first Charles fight.

This was not prime Dempsey though, so I would be careful with this imo.

Not too long before the long count, Jack Sharkey seem strong enough to handle Dempsey on the inside for the first 5 or so round.

Until a low blow hook to the jaw combo change the fight plans of couse.
