The corpse of the Boilermaker knocks Balboa down 17 times but Balboa, with a jaw broken in six places, a broken nose, and several broken ribs comes back to kayo Jeff's decaying carcass in the 15th round while the audience all wear black Nikes and commit a mass suicide aka heaven's gate. The referee incidently is Marshall Applewhite who drops dead in the ring during the final round after joining the audience by killing himself.

Jim (Jack) Jefferson was James Earl Jones character, a basis for Jack Johnson, in The Great White Hope. Not too bad a performance by Jones, however the fighting sequences were very minimal, as the film dealt more with Jefferson's (Johnson's) dealings with white America and racism more so than his achievements in the ring---unfortunately it gave in to the myth that Jefferson (Johnson) could never be beaten unless he threw a fight. Since this is a fictional battle, we got to deal with the misgivings of the film and conclude that nobody, not even Rocky Balboa could defeat Jefferson. HOWEVER, I see the fight as being like the first Rocky film; Jefferson gets a split decision, but fights the fight of his life with the Philadelphia long shot who floors Jefferson early on.
Jefferson wins, as Balboa is unable to control his hate and breaks a hand. Although I suspect Jefferson will comment post fight about Rocky's strong force...
