Las Vegas is the site for this doubleheader, as Vitali Klitschko will be facing off against James J. Corbett. & Jack Dempsey will be up against Oscar Bonavena in the cofeature.

Dempsey comes out strong & is hitting Bonavena with hard shots, Oscar seems to be taking the punches well & he fires back, when the opportunity arises. By the third there is no let up on Dempsey's assault, to both the head & body. Bonavena is slower & is having trouble keeping up with Dempsey's pace. In the seventh Bonavena is feeling the effects of the punches & is slowing down even more. Bonavena fires back, but is taking heavy blows. In the ninth Bonavena is wobbling around the ring, but is too tough to go down. Finally his corner has seen enough & stops the fight after the ninth round.

JACK DEMPSEY .9 TKO. OSCAR BONAVENA

Corbett comes out fast & uses his fine boxing skills to keep out of harm's way. Vitali's jab has immediate effect though. stinging Jim whenever it lands. Corbett score's effectively as he tries to move inside on the big man. Klitschko is starting to score by the mid rounds, he is using his size advantage now. Corbett is starting to tire from the constsnt movement. Corbett is beating Vitali to the punch, But Klitschko is scoring more now & his punches are more effective. In the eleventh Vitali scores heavily, Corbett looks staggered, but survives the round. In the thirteenth Jim looks spent, he has given it a good show. Vitali pours it on and drops Corbett with a powerful combination. Jim gamely rises, but his corner throws in the towel, amid Corbett's protests.

VITALI KLITSCHKO .13 TKO. JIM CORBETT

The Klitschko-Sullivan & Tunney-Marciano voting is still very close. With winner still yet to be determined.

I don't think Dempsey would stop Bonavena.

Nice descriptions of the fights. I haven't seen the Dempsey-Bonavena thread but it's an interesting matchup. Analogies to the Firpo fight are inevitable and style-wise, this would be quite hard for Dempsey, even if he's the much more accomplished boxer.

No ,Oscar's too tough for that. But Dempsey inflicting a continious pounding over the duration of a fight. Could possibly force a compassionate trainer of referree to stop the fight. In some ways simular to the recent Cotto-Pacquaio fight. Cotto, although game is just getting beaten to the punch & taking a pounding. despite his strong will to fight on.

Jimmy Ellis had Bonavena down, Ali had him in an awful state and stopped him.
It's not at all unlikely that Dempsey could knock him out.
