    I like your assessment.

But out of respect for my favorite fighter, I'm going with Rocco Francis Marchegiano. Admittedly, not at my most objective moment... still going with the man from Brockton.

How I can come to this conclusion?

Vitali uses his physical advantages well. It's mainly what he has in my opinion. I don't respect his defense, it's incredibly absent as far as I'm concerned. His lean forward lean back style works for the first 5-6 rounds effectively against the 67 reach 5'10 1/2 Rocky Marciano. But Marciano will bust on his arms, body, and all over. Vitali is not engrained with half the toughness and spirits of Marciano. Lewis had him holding on for dear life toward the last minute or two of their 5th round fight. He quit due to his shoulder injury against Byrd. Quitting or losing weren't even in Marciano's dictionary. These Klitchko's are smart fighters. Make no mistake about it. They went to get in with their mind and money and get out in one piece. Vitali is smart, a doctor (I think he does have a medical degree. Someone can verify this) and thinks about his health. He doesn't want to go down that road of fighting in a dogfight to the end. The type of fights that change both fighters forever (Manilla).

Vitali uses his size and wins the first 4 out of 5 rounds comfortable. But Marciano eventually grinds him. Vitali's upright style and telegraphic arm-punches are not finding their target. Marciano's crouch is troubling Vitali to land his jab. And his 1-2 is not finding its target. The uppercut, sloppy, and forced is being partially blocked or hitting Marciano's shoulder. Rocky fights on the inside and grinds at Vitali from round 6 onward. He's winning about 4 to 5 rounds up until the 12th round. Marciano's pace and pressure start to wear. That best HW stamina is starting to cause Vitali to clinch and flick the jab. Marciano's crouch and rolling from the torso coming out with attacks from all angles is becoming too much for Vitali. Vitali can't keep Rocky a bay with his limited offensive arsenal, and his arm-punches haven't taken enough toll to slow Rocky down enough. Vitali starts gambling with bigger punchers that he sits down on, but Rocky counters ferociously now from all angles. Rocky's throwing bombs, mixing in overhand rights with non-stop combinations. Vitali can't muster controlling distance or range, he's throwing the uppercut, jab, and straight hand all one at time. His defense consists of clinching and leaning back. Marciano will not stop. Vitali is a bloody messy. More bloody than Rocky. Rocky's cut up noticably due to the jabs and right hands, but clearly Vitali face is more of a bloody messy. The 14th round has arised. Vitali had control of the first 6-7 rounds but is beginning to wither. Rocky has taken this second half of the fight by command. Vitali still up on all 2 of the 3 cards. A very close fight. Marciano pounds Vitali. Non-stop punching and Vitali is completely gassed, mouth open, and struggling to keep up. Vitali takes a huge overhand right and falters back a step. He clinches Rocky, and does his patented hold and lean on the fighter, pushing Rocco all the way to the other corner. That weight disturbed Rocky at first, but Rocky's stamina and determination or too strong. Vitali is withering while Rocco keeps up his pressure. Vitali appears to have expended himself in the earlier rounds Rocky pounces over VItali. Vitali is defensiveless. Non-stop punches very reminiscent of the windmill shots against Moore. Rocky is getting sloppy, but he's landing on a helpless Vitali. The ref jumps in... the fight is stopped. IT IS OVER! Rocky Marciano TKO's Vitali Klitschko in the 14th round.

    Now I can dream can't I.

Open for counters? Vitali is there to be hit in the second half of the fight. No doubt, and Marciano will get there.

The former is sometimes built on statistics or accomplishments, during time periods where the standards for doing so are sometimes less treachurous, whereas the latter can often be less rewarding, even though greater ability is more proven.

VK stops the blockbuster very late in the fight on cuts. There would be a LOT of clinching by Klitschko everytime Marciano tried to work his way inside. It would an ugly fight one of the least ecstetically pleasing fights one could imagine. An 6-8" awkward but highly effective guy against the 5-10" Marciano who looked awkward at times himself. It would have some decent action though unlike that awful Johnson guy VK just fought.

    Klitschko TKO 12 (cuts) Marciano

No miracle kayo like the Charles fight. VK is just too large and powerful.

I think Klitschko wins. I simply don't rate Marciano very highly H2H.

LOL, I watched Marciano vs an older and Archie Moore, and in one round Marciano had 17 clean whiffs. If Moore had more power or stamina, Rocky would have been in trouble. Swingingly wildly with T-Rex like arms....Rocky would have a extremely hard time reaching Vitali, and Vitali prefers guys to come at him.

In the past four fights, Vitali has defeated Peter, Gomez, Arreolla, and Johnson in 39 rounds boxed. He won 38 of them, and had plenty of stamina and legs left in the later rounds. I fail to see Vitali tired even at age 38. Did Vitali take a breather at times? Sure, but so did Marciano. In fact I have seen Marciano become arm weary on film, and the announcer agrees.

Marciano was not a dynamic footwork / close the gap type of guy. In fact Vitali covers more ground in the ring on film.

Vitali klitschko stops him inside 12.
rocky does not last the distance while severely behind on scorecards anyway.
    he has no chance here.
a great lightheavy loses to a good superheavy.

I really like Rocky but I don't see him overcoming a skilled guy with a great chin and such a massive size advantage. I think Vitali wears him down and stops him late. Vitali TKO 14.

I understand the praise and love for Rocco Marciano, but realistically, he cannot beat the hulking V.K. who also has skill, power and great conditioning........ 'Tain't gonna happen...... V.K. by KO!!!

Marciano adjusts based on his opposition. Moore being a defensive fighter was someone who was going to pitch a lot to. Besides, Moore isn't a prime Marciano either.

Yes, the modest Marciano claimed of this by round 10 in the Charles fight. Still had the capabilities of throwing 100+ punches in round 15. Vitali is weird. He's a guy that looks like he's always tired. I don't think he breathes properly - he looks like he's gasping and tired a lot. He does have good stamina for a man of his size. We're talking with arm-punches. If he sits down to try stopping Marciano he gets tired. Besides, if he tries to fight at Marciano's pace he is done. That's just a fact.
