How many first round KOs would Wlad have if he had fought exhibitions against mail men, milk men and bus boys with four ounce gloves? He probably would have killed some along the way. No 190 pound guy is going to knock out Wlad, not going to happen.
The best thing the Dempsey people come up is Jess Willard. Besides his height he was nothing like Wlad. He didn't start boxing until he was almost 30 years old, while Wlad is an Olympic gold medalist with excellent speed and foodwork.

Dempsey KO2...thought he has him in the 1st left the ring, Doc Kearns had to bring him back to finish it in the 2nd....

Look Wlad is a very talented fighter and by no means am I saying Dempsey is a lock but Dempsey had a rare combo of speed and power and I feel stylewise Dempsey had a much better shot than the slower Marciano in this particular matchup ...

I actually agree with this. Although I would Pick Marciano fairly confidently over Wlad. I think Vitali is a worse matchup for Dempsey and Rocky than his brother, stylistically and due to their strengths/weaknesses.

    Dempsey, early.

I see little or no difference between Willard & Wlad. They are of comparable size and have similar styles.

"Once in a while," Willard said after Dempsey got him good, "I felt my head clearing and instinctively stuck out my long left which had served so well in previous fights. When I saw my opponent slipping easily past that protection, I realized that unless I landed a lucky blow, I was sure to lose."

--This sounds to me like it could be hypothetically repeated by Wlad Willard after this hypothetical match-up.

Dempsey KO 1. Wlad panics big time under pressure and Dempset comes out fast.

More and more, I'm thinking the Willard analogy is not as appropriate as the Fulton one.

Due to Williard's superior durability, toughness, and stamina? I think you're right.

I've always agreed with this. Vitali is more like Willard than Wlad is. Fulton seems to have had a similar style to Wlad and a similarly weak chin.

If that's not a statement stemming from the cold war then i don't know what is..

I think this is one of those fights where it can go both ways, but always in dominating fashion. Anything from a quick KO for Dempsey to an easy TKO clubbering (a Tunney with size and power) in Wlad's favor is possible if you ask me.

I'm picking Wlad because of the differences in eras, but you can't rule an explosive puncher like Dempsey out..

I don't see Wlad dealing with Dempsey's pressure and in fighting ability, alsoIi think Dempsey's head movement would cause problems as Wlad wouldn't be able to control the fight with his jab like he normally does. Dempsey stops Wlad in 5 or 6 rounds.

H2H with Wlad always has me thinking A. Wlad's got the power and skill to take anyone out and B. All it takes is one high quality aggressor to put him on ***** street and then he's probably screwed. That's why Frazier, Dempsey, Marciano, they all might stop or get stopped by a Wlad.

Yep. These fights are extremely hard to call because of the extreme size difference on one hand, and their proven punching power on the other hand, how does it hold up to someone used to getting hit by 230+lbs opponents?
