If we're looking for the boxer with the most fights, where he weighed above 175 lbs - my guess will be Sam Langford. On Boxrec a lot of the weights are missing - but he was likely a HW for approx. the last 185 fights (since he met John Lester Johnson in 1913)
Out of all boxers ever, in *any* weight classes, the top guy is apparently Len Wickwar with 467 fights in a 10+ year career. So that's probably the upper limit on how many fights fighter of any weight class could realistically rack up. (Although Wickwar himself had a career that included WW2, so he might have had more without the War.) That said, Wickwar was not a heavyweight. The top scoring heavyweight is probably far lower.
Cause it's interesting...The modern lineal Champs exclusive to HW Tyson Fury 31 Wladimir Klitschko 69 Hasim Rahman 61 Lennox Lewis 44 Shannon Briggs 68 George Foreman 81 Mike Tyson 56 Larry Holmes 75 Muhammad Ali 61 Joe Frazier 37 Sonny Liston 54 Ingo Johansson 28 Rocky Marciano 49 Joe Walcott 70 Joe Louis 69 Primo Carnera 102 Jack Sharkey 53 Jack Dempsey 67
So we aren't counting Charles because he had a bunch at lower weights? He did have 120ish fights. What about Elmer Ray, 134 fights (probably more) all or almost all at heavy
Imagine if Foreman changed his ways a lot earlier and didn’t have a big break- just imagine the amount of fights he’d have had.
If at least three fights on Archie Moore's boxrec pro record were gimmicked boxing matches against pro wrestlers, on pro wrestling bills, I do wonder how many Carnera had among them 102?!
It's an interesting question as the heavies don't necessarily go a long way with fghts. However, not really trying too hard I did find George Godfrey with 124, Tony Galento with 112 and George Chuvalo with 93. Tommy Far looked to be a good one with 142, but a lot of his career was also at light heavy which eliminates him here. But good question.
