What heavyweights past and present have at least partially embraced the art of body punching? And I know KD's from body punches are rare in the heavy/cruiser divisions - but I was wondering if you guys can think of any?
Tyson revived the lost art of body punching. The heavyweights slightly before his era and some during his era were more into jabbing and clinching with no real bad intentions on their punches. Foreman was a wicked body puncher. Also Corrie Sanders usually thumped his opponent's ribcage viciously.
Good pull on George Forman. He would throw that basterdized left/right hook/overhand punch with great results. Frazier's left hook to the body was just insane.
Frazier was relentless to the body. Dempsey, Marciano, Tyson, etc...were all very good body punchers. Bowe was consistent in throwing shots to the body. I don't recall him throwing vicious single shots to the body, but he was clever on the inside and threw his punches in combos, and was effective to the body. Holyfield didn't quite go to the body as much as he should have, but he could be effective there, as he dropped Cooper with a left hook to the body. Lewis could sneak in body shots well, he hurt Holyfield in round 5 to the body. An underrated body puncher is Chris Byrd. You wouldn't think so, but he snuck in body punches well while mixing it up with those slaps upstairs. Tua was more hurt in round 8 against Byrd, to the body, than I've ever seen him.
