(If this has been discussed before, I apologize. I couldn't find it.) Tunney rejuvenated to his prime, brought into modern times, fully aware of his entire career and experiences, previously. And the same for Patterson. 12 rounds. Your thoughts? (For this, assume that Tunney agrees to fight Patterson.)

Interesting match up ! not seen before, I would favor Tunney , he was a lot tougher than he was given credit for generally , it took HG to bring that to the scribes attention, plus I also feel his punching power was a little underrated over his career, he had a rock solid chin ( unlike Floyd ) so for me he prob outpoints Patterson over that distance. keep well.

It's a fabulous fight. Hard to think of a better CW fight really.

A tough fight to judge, close and not much between at times. I'm gonna give Floyd it by split again. Definitely deserves a second fight!

I'm going with Floyd as well. they're both of the same size, but Patterson's speed would take it for me.

Floyd KO's him. A lightening quick left hooker with young legs would present huge problems for Gene.

Really interesting matchup, I like Tunney but Patterson's speed might get a close decision .

I agree that it would be a sizzler.

While I agree on a real good matchup, both had great boxing skills and speed, I think that Floyd Patterson takes this one on points in a very tactical bout. Both heavyweights would be in tremendous shape, not flabby like today's heavyweights who appear allergic to the gym. Floyd has faced very good punchers in his career, Ingo, Sonny Liston, George Chuvalo, Oscar Bonavena, Henry Cooper, Jerry Quarry, and boxer's such as Muhammad Ali, Jimmy Ellis Eddie Machen. The speed and experience would prevail over Gene Tunney, who had outstanding boxing skills. This points win would be extremely close

I think Tunney would prevail, if they would box in the same era, at least after a couple of fights against each other.
Tunney`s abilities to improve and develop from fight to fight and his cleverness would be decisive.

I go with Floyd Patterson, if it`s a fantasy clash between Patterson from 50s/60s and Gene Tunney from the twenties.
I am not sure about the result though. Patterson could win on points, or maybe even via late knockout. Patterson had the handspeed, combinations, accuracy and punch to impress Tunney.
Like I wrote, I favour Patterson, but there is no clear favourite for me. A victory of Tunney wouldn't surprise me either, because of his better footwork, better reach, great defense and his excellent jab. This would be more likely a win on points.
Nevertheless, I assume that Patterson could catch Tunney over 15 rounds.

Oh no you don't. I'm not getting drawn into the weight class controversy again. Hahahahaha.
