Fighters around Mayweathers weight are much more technical than HWs and Floyd was one of the best technicians ever to fight at those weights, so the answer is pretty given.

Golota was more technically gifted at biting people and throwing punches to the testicles.

Johnson is not a bad pick in terms of ability and ring IQ, but he has a few bad losses if we're being brutally honest.

Trying to hit Mayweather at his best was like trying to grab a snake covered in oil and grease. You'd rarely land more than one solid blow in a row, and he was superb at anticipating shots by studying your attack pattern. I think prime Jimmy Young is the only guy at heavyweight whose even within the same zip code as Mayweather in terms of defense and slickness.

I don’t think I can credit any heavyweights as being more technically gifted than Floyd Mayweather. I suppose the closest person I can come up with is Ezzard Charles but even HE only fought at heavyweight for part of his career

Technically sound? IMHO: No Heavyweight that I know of could top Floyd Mayweather as a pure technician in the ring.

Charles and Moore were both heavyweights, albeit ones who were at their arguable best below that weight. They are often ranked among the greatest 5 or so boxers in history. If any heavyweight qualifies for this thread, it's probably them.

A question is a bit off. Technique is not 'gifted', it's 'learned'.

Floyd was not remotely as gifted as Roy Jones Jr athletically (speed, reflexes, power) but way more sound technically.

As for HWs, I suppose there were few with better offensive skills but it's hard to find anyone who matches Floyd in terms of defensive skills.

    The correct answer is none.
Joe Louis's punching technique/mechanics is in the ballpark, but that's about it for the heavies.
