I was thinking about the top fighters at heavyweight, and the truth is, i dont see heavyweight as THAT bad..... IMO, the problem with heavyweight isnt the fighters that are there, but that NOBODY is going out there and fighting eachother on a regular basis. Lets break it down. Some of the top fighters (give or take a few) Wlad - 3 Adamek - 1 Haye - 0 Vitali - 2 Valuev - 1 Peter - 2 Arreola - 2 Povetkin - 1 Tua - 0 Chagaev - 2 chambers - 2 boytsov - 0 All these guys are eather big names, or like boytsov and povetkin, ranked in the top 10 in the world. When you can assemble a division with a dozen of its top fighters, and NONE of them has faced more then three of the other guys????? Again.... out of 12 of the best in the world, ONE has faced more then two of their peers. HALF of them have yet to even face a second. And 4 havnt even fought 1! Yes, i realise the reasons, im not here to discuss the reasons.... im here to discuss the solutions. Wlad vs Haye Wlad vs Valuev Vitali vs Haye Vitali vs Valuev Haye vs Adamek Haye vs Tua Haye vs Peter Haye vs Arreola Peter vs Arreola Tua vs Peter Tua vs Arreola Adamek vs Peter Adamek vs Tua Adamek vs Boytsov Adamek vs Povetkin Chagaev vs Haye Chagaev vs Adamek Chagaev vs Tua Chagaev vs Peter Peter vs Valuev Arreola vs Povetkin and believe it or not..... the list GOES ON. These are almost all fights that would have the boxing world talking.... and these fights lead to other fights which lead to big fights, which lead to bigger fights, which lead to SUPERfights. Yes... as strange as it may seem, the heavyweight division, IF IT LET ITSELF, could have a superfight that isnt named Klitschko vs Haye within a year and a half but no.... its that 'waiting game', and other various shallow political mentalities that plauges this sport time and time again, making a division that should be hot, a stagnate wasteland. Bottom line isnt that the heavies suck... its that nobody is fighting eachother. anyways, i just wanted to show that theres plenty of mouth watering fights to be had at heavy, if they would just allow themselves. its pretty embarresing, and makes me thankful for the lower weights (yes, im aware they have their shortcomings too with fights not being made *mayweather/pac* lol, but overall theyve done good) and the Super Six. :good just IMO
Asking for fights the fans want to see is asking for too much...but I agree, there's potential for great fights to get the boxing world talking.
I agree, make the exciting fights and people will get interested. Klitschkos are way ahead of everyone though.
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2599025/david_haye_king_of_the_heavyweights.html?cat=14 The link above is an article discussing how David Haye will become undisputed heavyweight champion. I think that David Haye does have the talent and athletic ability to beat the Klitschkos. He is more exciting boxer then Klitschkos so if he becomes undisputed heavyweight champ then he will wake up the division.
When the Klitschkos are gone, VK leaving soon, Wlad may stick for a few. Once, VK is gone, we have an open field.
The problem with the division is that a lot of these fighters don't have a nutritionist or a strength and conditioning coach in their team. Last year Eddie Chambers recently hired a nutritionist after he defeated Samuel Peter. I'm assuming boxers like Chris Arreola do not have a nutritionist or a strength and conditioning coach.
Below are the RING rankings for the last couple of years. Wladimir Klitschko faced the fighters highlighted in red. 2006-2007 1) Wladimir Klitschko 2) Oleg Maskaev This content is protected 4) James Toney 5) Shannon Briggs 6) Serguei Lyakhovich This content is protected 8 ) Nikolay Valuev This content is protected 10) John Ruiz 2007-2008 1) Wladimir Klitschko This content is protected 3) Oleg Maskaev This content is protected 5) Nikolay Valuev This content is protected 7) Serguei Lyakhovich 8 ) Vladimir Virchis This content is protected 10) Alexander Povetkin 2008-2009 1) Wladimir Klitschko 2) Vitali Klitschko This content is protected 4) Alexander Povetkin 5) Nikolay Valuev This content is protected This content is protected 8 ) Oleg Maskaev 9) Juan Carlos Gomez 10) Alexander Dimitrenko Couldn't find the more recent lists, unfortunately. The fact that a former light heavyweight champion has taken on more chances in his campaign at heavyweight than any of the other top contenders...sad.
I think you're not fair on Wlad. He didnt have only 2 fights with top opposition. Every single one of his opponents were top ranked, well mostly all of them. HE fought Chagaev( champ), Ibragimov(champ), Chambers (top contender), Brock( good contender), Peter ( top contender, became a title holder after the fight), Brewster(ex champ). You could add Rahman and Thompson who were better that Tua at that time. THe only guy whom he shoul've fought is Valuev. All others are his future opponents. Haye or Povetkin being next. I actually think that WLad's resume is impressive for the HW. Better than the rest for sure.
Wlad should be 3 and not 2. Wlad fought and beat Peter, Chambers and Chagaev on that list. You make that sound like Adamek is bad... which he is definatly not.
Your right, thank you :good I wrote that before i had realised i forgot chambers and then forgot to change wlads numbers, thanks for the catch.
